Central Illinois got a lot of rain last week, but is was pretty much hit & miss - and most of it missed Spoon River Speedway! Once again, it didn't take the track long to dry out and get slick! The night was also VERY COOL by feature time, and once again, there were several fast lanes around the track, making for side-by-side, three wide racing action all night long!
The #96 of Kirk Anderson and the #4 of John Winters lined up 3rd and 6th to start E-Mod Heat #1, but both cars were up front and broke away front the rest of the field by lap #2. Kirk Anderson kept his #96 E-Mod out front all the way to score the win, followed by the #4 of John Winters in 2nd, and the #29 of Chad Terwillger in 3rd. Attrition was REALLY high in E-Mod Heat #2. Seven cars started the race, but only 2 finished! The #7W of Mark Branch started on the pole and led it from flag to flag, and scored the heat win, followed by the #52 of Don Entrekin in 2nd.The #29 of David Boyer started on the pole in the Thunder Truck Heat, and by lap #2, they were pretty much single file until the whit flag came out. The #8 of Dave Collins, who ran the entire race in 2nd place, got a good run on the last lap, and he was able to get around Boyer to score the win. The #29 of David Boyer finished in 2nd, followed by the #31 of Harry Fourdyce in 3rd.
The #28 of Phil Schnarr started on the pole in Modified Heat #1, and he led the race from flag to flag, scoring the heat race win. The #26 of JD Beal finished the race in 2nd, followed by the #M21 of Justin Munson in 3rd. The #31 of Mark Anderson also started on the pole in Modified Heat #2, and he also led it from start to finish to score the heat race win. The #292 of Bobby Allen raced his way from a 4th place start to a 2nd place finish. The real mover in this race was the #28 of "Jammin'" Jimmy Hibser. Hibser started way back in the 7th spot, but moved his way up to a strong 3rd place finish. The pole seemed to be the place to be for tonight's heat races. The #26 of Brandon Underwood started Modified Heat #3 on the pole, and he also stayed out front all the way to the end, and scored the heat race win. The #49 of Todd Bates finished on 2nd, followed by the #25 of Butch Weisser in 3rd.The #18 of Terry Pratt was also a pole-sitter in tonight's Pro Street heat, and like many others tonight, he started out front and stayed out front all the way to the end to score the win. The #81K of Mark Ross, who started in 3rd, finished in the 2nd position, followed by the #12 of Tom Turnbull in 3rd.
The #4C of Rob Colson lined up for the start of Late Model Heat #1 in the 3rd spot, but he quickly moved his way up to the front and into the lead. Once out front, Rob Colson opened up a BIG lead for himself and scored a very convincing win in his #4C Late Model. The #B12 of Roger Nelson finished in 2nd, and the #41 of Tom Wirebaugh in 3rd. The #292 of Bobby Allen started Late Model Heat #2 in the 2nd position, but he was ALL OVER the back bumper of the pole-sitter, the #11 of Brad Denney, on the very first lap. Allen tried high and low to get around Denney, never letting more than a couple of feet open up between himself and the race leader. Bobby Allen got a great run out of turn #4 on the last lap, and drove his #292 Late Model under Denney and into victory lane. The #11 of Brad Denney finished in 2nd, followed by the #29J of Lindell Jewell in 3rd.The #11 of Scott Denney started on the pole in Hobo Heat #1, but the #91 of Nick Christian quickly got around him and into the lead. Contact from Denney sent Christian to the pits with a flat, handing the lead back over to Denney. The #64 of Curtis Link, who started back in 5th, quickly raced his way to the front and was in the lead by lap #4. The #11 of Scott Denney didn't stay in 2nd for long, quickly taking the lead back from Link. Scott Denney stayed out front to score another win for the #11 Hobo, followed by the #64 of Curtis Link in 2nd, and the #4 of Shaun Glaser in 3rd. The #42 of Tim Bishop started 3rd in Hobo Heat #2, and the #68 of Lance Alcorn stared even further back in the 5th spot, but by the first turn, Alcorn and Bishop were up front and battling for the lead. By lap #2, the entire field was pretty much single file, with no real challenging for position going on. The 368 of Lance Alcorn scored another VERY STRONG win, followed by the #42 of Tim Bishop in 2nd, and the #19 of Durland Pople in 3rd.
So far tonight, most of the pole-sitters were bringing home the checkered flags, and tonight's E-Mod Feature event was no different. The #96 of Kirk Anderson started the main event on the pole, and he stayed out front for the entire race. The #4 of John Winters, who started in 3rd, quickly made his way around the #7W of Mark Branch to move into the 2nd spot, and once he took over the 2nd spot, he held it all the way to the end. The #28 of Phil Schnarr and the #M3 of Chuck McDonald weren't as fortunate. Schnarr, who started 10th, and McDonald, who lined up way back in 14th, had to pass A LOT of cars on their way to the front, but it didn't seem to slow either one of them down. By a lap #4 restart, Schnarr had already raced his way up into the 5th spot, and by lap #5, McDonald was all over Schnarr's back bumper and into the 6th position. By lap #9, Schnarr and McDonald were battling hard for the 4th spot with the #9 of Chad Terwillger. Once out front, the race was ALL Kirk Anderson. Kirk drove lap-after-consistent-lap, and had little difficulty taking his #96 E-mod to the winner's circle for another strong Feature win. The #4 of John Winters finished with a solid 2nd, followed by the #28 of Phil Schnarr in 3rd, the #29 of Chad Terwillger in 4th, and the #M3 of Chuck McDonald in 5th.There were a lot of trucks spinning in the turns in the Thunder Truck Feature, but there were NOT a lot of cautions. The majority of the time, the trucks would get straightened out and keep going, but it made for a lot of shuffling back and forth for position. The #87 of Rick Huffman started on the pole, but the #29 of David Boyer got around him in a hurry and took over the lead on the first lap. Boyer spun on lap #3, handing the lead over to the #31 of Harry Fourdyce, with the #8 of Dave Collins on his back bumper in the 2nd spot. Collins spun on lap #5, sending him to the back of the pack, but that time, Boyer had come all the way from the back into a battle for the 2nd spot. Collins, who went all the way to the back after spinning, also made his way back through traffic in a hurry. With all the shuffling and spinning going on behind him, Harry Fourdyce was able to open up some breathing room between himself and the rest of the field, and he took his #31 Thunder truck to victory lane for the Feature win. The #8 of Dave Collins raced his way back up front in a hurry bring home the 2nd place finish, followed by the #29 of David Boyer in 3rd, the #87 of Rick Huffman in 4th, and the #88 of Dave Collins in 5th.
Twenty-two cars started the Modified Feature, and they were NOT following tonight's "start up front/finish up front" pattern! The #26 of JD Beal started on the pole, and he did lead the first six laps of the race, but there were A LOT of cars that started deep in the field that were moving up front in a hurry! The #292 of Bobby Allen started in 5th, and his brother, the #192 of Brian Allen started in 11th, but by lap #4, they had both raced their way to the top five. The only car moving up faster than the Allens was the #28 of "Jammin" Jimmy Hibser. Hibser, who started 8th, was up to 6th on the 1st lap, 4th by lap #5, and was challenging for 3rd by lap #7. By a lap #11 restart, he had caught Bobby Allen and was challenging for the lead, and by lap #14, Hibser was able to get under Allen to take over the top spot. Brian Allen and the JD Beal were battling side-by-side for the 3rd spot, allowing the #17 of Rick Scott to get underneath both of them and move up into the 3rd position on lap #15. He may have come from deep in the field, but once out front, there was no catching Jim Hibser, and he kept his #28 Modified WAY out front to score his first Feature win of the season (watch out for Jimmy …..it WON'T be his last Feature win!). The #17 of Rick Scott was also able to get around Bobby Allen late in the race and brought home the 2nd place finish. The #292 of Bobby Allen finished in 3rd, followed by the #49 of Todd Bates in 4th, and the #192 of Brian Allen in 5th.Again tonight, the Late Model and the Pro Street classes were combined for their Feature events, and once again, the Pro Street drivers did a GREAT job keeping pace, and even outracing, some of the tougher competitors. The #11 of Brad Denney has COMPLETELY dominated the Late Model class all season long, but he saw something tonight that he's not been used to seeing ………. a car running out in front of him! The competition was made better by a new addition to tonight's list of competitors, the #292 of Bobby Allen. Allen started on the pole, and Denney lined up in 4th, but it didn't take Denney long to move up into the 2nd spot. Allen opened up an early lead, but it was cut short by a lap #4 caution. Denney was ALL OVER the back bumper of Allen, challenging for the lead, but Allen was able to hold him off and hold onto the lead. A little further back in the field, the Pro Street cars were mixing it up for position in their own race for points. The #27 of Greg Arnett was back with us for the first time tonight, and he quickly took over the 2nd spot in the Pro Street division. The #81K of Mark Ross moved into the Pro Street lead by lap #7, bringing the #12 of Tom Turnbull with him into 2nd. Back up front, Allen had opened up some breathing room between himself and Denney, and Denney had also put some space between himself and the #29J of Lindell Jewell, who was running in 3rd. Lap traffic did come into play the last couple of laps, but it didn't seem to affect any of the race leaders. The #292 of Bobby Allen stayed out front from flag to flag and scored the Late Model Feature win. The #11 of Brad Denney finished in 2nd, followed by the #29J of Lindell Jewell in 3rd, the #59 of Morey Denney in 4th, and the #4C of Rob Colson in 5th. The #81K of Mark Ross raced his way to another strong Pro Street Feature win. The #27 of Greg Arnett finished 2nd, followed by the #12 of Tom Turnbull in 3rd, the #4S of Justin Smith in 4th, and the #18 of Terry Pratt in 5th.
The #68 of Lance Alcorn lined up in the 2nd spot in the Hobo feature, but he quickly moved into the lead, and once Alcorn was out front, he was there to stay. The #11 of Scott Denney ran much of the race in 2nd, with a lot of racing for position going on behind him. The #42 of Tim Bishop started 4th, and the #19 of Durland Pople Started from the 6th spot, but by lap #4 they were battling with the #35 of Josh Smith for the 3rd position. My apologies to all the Hobo drivers for not catching the rest of the action on tape, but my recorder couldn't make it to the end. Contrary to what you see on TV, Energizers DON'T always keep going and going and going! I did watch the rest of the race, and once again, the #68 of Lance Alcorn dominated the field and brought home the Feature win. The #11 of Scott Denney finished in 2nd, followed by the #35 of Josh Smith in 3rd, the #19 of Durland Pople in 4th, and the $42 of Tim Bishop in 5th.
