My apologies to all the E-Mod drivers this evening. We had some trouble getting to the track tonight, and we were VERY late, so I missed all the E-Mod Heat Races. The results for the E-Mod Heats were as follows:
HEAT #1
HEAT #2
HEAT #3
John Winters
Phil Schnarr
Phil Schnarr
Tim Bisho
Brent Munson
Chad Terwilliger
Congratulations to all the top drivers in the E-Mod Heat races!

The #192 of Brian Allen jumped out front to an early lead in Modified Heat #1, with the #97P of Phil Johns in 2nd right behind him. The #26 of JD Beal and the #42 of Matt Smith were racing each other hard behind the race leaders, battling for the 3rd spot, with the #5 of Mike Donaho and the #4T of Tony Hibser right behind them fighting for 5th. Brian Allen stayed out front all the way and scored the win. Phil Johns finished 2nd, followed by JD Beal, Matt Smith, and Mike Donaho.

The #31 of Mark Anderson started 2nd in Modified Heat #2, but by lap #2 he was around the #3L of Doug Canham and into the lead. The #22B of Richie Biswell, who started 5th, was moving up in a hurry and challenging Canham and taking the 2nd spot. The field got pretty spread out, and Mark Anderson had no problem brining home the checkered flag. Richie Biswell finished 2nd, followed by Doug Canham, Justin Munson, and Rick Scott.

Attrition was high Modified Heat #3. The race started with 7 cars, but only 3 made it to the end! The #28 of Phil Schnarr, who started deep in the pack, quickly jumped up front and into a battle for the lead with the #71 of George Hall and the #25 of Butch Weisser. Weisser pulled into the pits, obviously overheating, leaving only Schnarr, Hall, and the #420 of John Eppers on the track. Phil Schnarr opened up a BIG lead, and easily scored the win. George Hall finished 2nd, and John Eppers finished 3rd.

The #30 of Gerald Carter started on the pole in Thunder Truck Heat #1, and out front is where he stayed. The #28 of Ron Wilson got high in turns #1 & #2, and the #8 of Dave Collins was able to get under him and move up into the 2nd spot. Gerald Carter opened up a BIG lead and took home another checkered flag. Dave Collins finished 2nd, and Ron Wilson came in 3rd.

The #7 of Greg Wells and the #55 of Roger Nelson broke away from the rest of the field early in Thunder Truck Heat #2. The #31 of Harry Fourdyce ran most of the race in 3rd place all alone, with the #88 of Dave Collins and the #77 of Jeff Reedy battling behind him for the 4th spot. Nelson was finally able to get around Wells for the lead on lap #3, and Roger Nelson stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. Greg Wells finished 2nd, followed by Harry Fourdyce, Jeff Reedy, and Dave Collins.

The #59 of Morey Denney started on the pole in Late Model Heat #1, and he had no problem staying out front all the way to the checkered flag. Denney got a BIG jump on the start, opening up an entire front stretch lead for himself on the 1st lap. The #61 of Tony Talley, who started in the back, quickly moved up into the 2nd spot, and from there, the field got spread out all over the track. Morey Denney brought home a convincing win, followed by Tony Talley, Bill Kettering, Jr., and Dwayne Walters.

The #11 of Brad Denney was the pole sitter for Late Model Heat #2, but unfortunately things didn't go as well for Brad as they did for Morey. By lap #3, the #M1 of Dale Munson was around Brad and intthe lead, and by lap #6, something went away on Denney's car, forcing him to pull into the pits. Once Munson got out front, he had no problem staying there, and Dale Munson brought home another checkered flag. The #F13 of Dawn Mennel finished 2nd, followed by the #19 of Tim Morris, and the #20M of Mike Killion.

Cross Flag One of the drivers that we had a chance to talk to tonight was the driver of the #M40 Late Model, Scott "Scooter" May. Scott, currently 2nd in the points, has been a top contender all year in the Late Model Division, practically dominating the first half of the season. Scott races with us from East Peoria, Illinois. Hit pit crewmembers include Earl Doby and Greg Yeomen, and Scott's car is sponsored by Pekin Welders. Scott says his biggest fans are Scott, Jr. and Austin. Unfortunately, Scott didn't make tonight's feature due to mechanical problems, but anyone that's seen him run this year knows that the #M40 is one of the most exciting cars there is to watch out on the track! Scott says his personal goal is too see his own boys race. The driver that Scott looks up to the most is "Grandpa" Carter, because Jim is 64 years old and still racing, so Scott says he has at least 20 more years to go!! What does Scott like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The speed, and the people. The least? Nothing!!! Our thanks to Scott for taking the time to visit with us tonight. We certainly wish him & his team a successful season, and we'll certainly keep our eyes open for the next generation of drivers in those fast "Full Tilt" Chassis by Fast Boys!!

The #M60 of Kelly Murphy may have started in the back of Pro Street Heat #1, but he was coming up in a hurry, and quickly moved right behind the race leader, the #51 of Don Cooley. Cooley got off the high side of turn #4, and Murphy took advantage and took over the lead position. Kelly Murphy stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag, bringing home the win. Don Cooley finished 2nd, followed by the #85 of Coy Cooley, and the #69 of Tim Faulkenberry.

Cross Flag The driver of the #M80 Pro Street, Kelley Murphy, was another one of the drivers we had a chance to talk to tonight. Kelly races with us from Bushnell, Illinois. Kelly's pit crewmembers include his wife, and his son Scott, and they are also his biggest fans. Kelly's Pro Street is sponsored by Bushnell Trucking & Wolf Brown Agency. When we asked Kelly how his car was running, his answer was "Good". It sure looked better than "good", scoring a very convincing heat race win!! Kelly's goal for the season is to win a feature. The driver that Kelly looks up to the most is Dale Munson, because the two of them are good friends, and Dale helps him with the car. What does Kelly like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The size - the straight-aways are long and the corners are wide. The least? The pay out. Kelly also likes racing at Spoon River because he thinks they have good track officials. Our thanks to Kelly for taking the time to talk with us tonight. We certainly wish him a successful season, and we hope to see more of him at SRS.

There were very few changes in Pro Street Heat #2. The #C27 of Jim Carter started on the pole, and he stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag, followed by the #81K of Mark Ross in 2nd. Contact between the #31 of Scott Knox and the #31K of Ken Gresham sent Gresham into the mine tires coming out of turn #2, and he restarted in the back. Ross challenged Carter for the lead throughout the race, but Carter held him off until the end. Jim Carter scored another win, followed by Mark Ross in 2nd, the #31 of Scott Knox in 3rd, and the Ken Gresham, Jr. in 4th.

The #27 of Greg Arnett started on the pole in Pro Street Heat #3, and he had no problem staying out front until the end. The #00 of Steve Harper, who started last, quickly moved into the 2nd spot, bringing the #43 of John Heitzman with him. The #18 of Terry Pratt had his hands full, doing everything he could just to keep his car straight. Greg Arnett opened up a BIG lead, and scored a convincing win. Harper and Heitzman were side by side on the last lap, fighting for 2nd, but Steve Harper came out the winner in the end, finishing in the 2nd spot. John Heitzman came in 3rd, and Terry Pratt finished 4th.

The #19 of Durland Pople started 2nd in Hob Heat #1, but he quickly gout around the #01 of Rick Diegel and moved into the lead. Something went away on Diegel's car, forcing him to pull into the pits on the last lap, turning the 2nd spot over to the #91 of Nick Christian. Durland Pople took home a strong first place finish, followed by Nick Christian, and the #22 of Greg Sullivan.

The #77T of Willie Heinz started 3rd in Hobo Heat #2, but he was moving up fast and took the lead early in the race. Another car that was on the move was the #77 of Cliff Howard. Howard started all the way in the back of the field, but quickly drove his way up into the 2nd position. Willie Heinz stayed out front until the end, bringing home the checkered flag. Cliff Howard finished 2nd, followed by the #35 of Josh Smith, and the #52 of Don Entrekin.

The #5 of Danny Glover started the middle of the pack in Hobo Heat #3, but he had a strong car tonight, and he quickly took it to the front. The #8 of Clay Wisher was also strong, starting all the way in the back, and rapidly moving up into the 2nd spot. Danny Glover opened up a BIG lead, and easily scored the win. Clay Wisher finished 2nd, followed by the #M18 of Clayton Murphy and the #99X of Ron Egli.

The E-Mod Feature was a "nail biter" from start to finish. The #29 of Chad Terwillger started on the pole, but the #M17 of Brent Munson and the #25 of Phil Schnarr were both challenging him for the lead from the 1st lap. Schnarr and Munson both got around Terwillger, bringing the #96 of Kirk Anderson along with them. Schnarr, Anderson and Munson raced side-by-side, trading the lead back and forth several times, until the white flag waved. Behind the race leaders, Terwillger, the #4 of John Winters, the #30 of Rob Bauman, Jr., and the #30 of Robbie Bauman, Jr. were battling for the 4th spot. The #64 of Jim Picardi, who started deep in the field, was making up a lot of ground in a hurry. making his way around both Bauman cars and into the 4th spot at the end of the race. Anderson got a GREAT run coming out of turn #4 on the last lap to take the lead from Munson. Munson, who appeared to have been hit from behind, spun in turn #2 on the last lap, and finished deep in the field. Mark Anderson was able to hold off Schnarr, and he brought home a very exciting win. Phil Schnarr finished 2nd, followed by John Winters, Jim Picardi, and Robbie Bauman, Jr.

The #26 of JD Beal was the pole sitter in the Modified Feature, and he opened up a nice lead on the start, with the #22B of Richie Biswell running in 2nd behind him. The #28 of Phil Schnarr and the #97P of Phil Johns were all over the back bumper of Biswell in a hurry, trying to move un and challenge the race leader. There were several cautions throughout the race, with several cars pulling off the track before it was over. The track was FAST everywhere .. high, middle, and low. Johns, who chose the high side, was able to get around Beal and move into the lead on lap #9, but Schnarr and the #192 of Brian Allen were right behind him, also choosing to run the higher groove. Johns was able to open up a "comfy" lead, but he got VERY loose in turns #3 and #4 with 2 lap to go, and Schnarr closed in on him in a hurry. Johns was able to get straightened out and he held off the #28 car, and Phil Johns brought home the Feature win. Phil Schnarr finished in 2nd, followed by JD Beal, Brian Allen, and Matt Smith. We'd like to congratulate 17-year-old Matt Smith on his 5th place finish in tonight's feature. Matt has been driving hard all season, and he's been close a lot of times, but this was his first Top Five Finish.
GREAT JOB MATT!!

Cross Flag The driver of the #25 Modified, Butch Weisser, also took time out of his busy night to talk with us. Butch races with us from Peoria, Illinois. Butch has had three feature wins already this year, and he's currently tied for 1st in the points. Unfortunately, Butch didn't make it to victory lane tonight. He had to pull into the pits early in the Feature with a flat tire, but they got it changed, sent Butch back onto the track, and he STILL brought home a Top 10 finish! WOW!!!!! Butch's pit crewmembers include Jeff Dunlap, Gary "The Grill Master" Sperry, and Kathy Anderson, and his car is sponsored by A & A Heating, Hunter's View, and Team Thome. Butch says his biggest fans are his wife Kathy, and his children, Allen, Megan, and Katelyn. Also cheering him on every week are his parents, Art & Joan Weisser, and his Uncle Jim. When we asked Butch how is car was running, his answer was "Great" Watch out Modified drivers ….. if Butch's car gets much better, they might have to put a sign on it the back of his car that reads "If you want to finish 2nd …. FOLLOW ME!!" Butch's goal for the season is to be the Point Championship, and he's definitely on the right track to making that goal a reality. The driver that Butch looks up to the most is Jim Hibser, because Jim got him started in racing, and Jim helps him A LOT with his car. What does Butch like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The fans! The least? Nothin'!! Butch also wanted to wish ALL the drivers "Good Luck!" the rest of the year. Our thanks to Butch for taking the time to talk with us this evening, and we'll certainly be cheering him the rest of the season, as he races his way to the championship!!

The #30 of Gerald Carter started on the pole in the Thunder Truck Feature, but the #55 of Roger Nelson got around him and moved into the lead on lap #1. The #28 of Ron Wilson was moving up fast, but he was sent to the back of the pack on lap #2 for getting into the back of Carter and causing him to spin on the backstretch. Carter got a good jump on the restart, and was able to take the lead back again from Nelson. Nelson and the #8 of Dave Collins were battling for 2nd, with the #7 of Greg Wells and the #77 of Jeff Reedy behind them fighting for the 4th spot, and Wilson moving up through traffic in a hurry back in to the top 5. With all the fighting for position going on behind him, Gerald Carter was able to open up some breathing room between himself and the competition, and score another Feature win. Ron Wilson made his way all the way back up towards the front for a strong 2nd place finish, followed by Roger Nelson, the #8 of Dave Collins, and Greg Wells.

The #10M of Chad Pratt was the pole sitter for the Late Model feature, and the #19 of Tim Morris started in 2nd, and the two were able to hold off the competition stay out front for the first 16 laps of the race. The #M1 of Dale Munson, who started 8th, wasn't wasting any time moving towards the front, racing his way all the way up to the 4th position by lap #2. The #11 of Brad Denney, who started WAY back in the 14th spot, was also "bad fast", moving up into the top 4 by lap #4, and into the 2nd position just a few laps later! Normally, the Late Models run a pretty "caution free" race, but that was not the case tonight. The yellow flag came out several times during this race, which kept bunching the leaders up for the restarts, so Pratt and Morris definitely has their hands full holding on to those top 2 spots. Brad Denney was able to get around Morris and move in the 2nd spot on lap #12, and by lap #16, he also got around Pratt to take over the lead. Brad Denney stayed out front the rest of the way, and he brought home another strong Feature win. Tim Morris finished 2nd, followed by the #7 of Will Daniels in 3rd, Chad Pratt in 4th, and Dale Munson in 5th.

The #27 of Greg Arnett may have lined up in the 5th spot for the Pro Street Feature, but he took the lead on the first lap, and he was there to stay! Right behind Arnett was a six car battle for the 2nd spot between the #18 of Terry Pratt, the #M80 of Kelly Murphy, the #81K of Mark Ross, the #00 of Steve Harper, and the #C27 of Jim Carter, that was being driven tonight by Scott May. A lap #3 caution sent May to the back of the pack for the restart, but he didn't stay there long, racing his way back into the 4th spot by lap #4. This race was plagued with cautions, but the race leader, Arnett, didn't seem to mind, opening up a BIG lead for himself on every restart. On lap #5, Harper was rubbing doors with Pratt down the backstretch, causing Pratt to spin. Harper had to restart from the back, and Pratt had to pull into the pits with a rear flat. Once again, Arnett had a GREAT restart, with May and Ross behind him fighting for 2nd. Ross took the 2nd spot from May in turns #3 & #4 on lap #12, with the #5 of David Harris getting around Murphy and moving into the 4th position. Greg Arnett, who ran a STRONG race from start to finish, easily brought home the checkered flag. Mark Ross finished 2nd, followed by the Scott May, David Harris, and Kelley Murphy.

The #77 of Cliff Howard may have started 5th in the Hobo Feature, but he was up front and in the lead on the first lap! Right behind Howard was a 5 car battle for the 2nd spot between the #M18 of Clayton Murphy, the #8 of Clay Wisher, the #35 of Josh Smith, the #5 of Danny Glover, and the #77T of Willie Heinz. With all the door-to-door racing going on behind him, Howard was able to open up a BIG lead on the rest of the field. On lap #6, Heinz made his way through traffic and moved into the 2nd spot, and he was also able to pull but some distance between himself and the rest of the pack. Murphy got loose in turn #2, loosing several spots, which allowed Wisher to take over the 3rd spot, with Glover right behind him. Cliff Howard had no trouble bringing home the checkered flag, scoring a VERY convincing Feature win, with Willie Heinz behind him finishing 2nd. Danny Glover made a last lap challenge, and with a great pass in turns #3 & #4, he was able to bring home the 3rd place finish. Clay Wisher finished 4th and Josh Smith came in 5th.

Once again, a big "THANK YOU" tonight to Kelly Murphy, Butch Weisser, and Scott "Scooter" May for taking the time out of their busy night to talk to us. We'd like to wish them all a very safe & successful racing season. I'd also like to thank Jenelle Hibser for doing the driver interviews tonight. She did a GREAT job!!
