For those of you not familiar with this race, it goes something like this .. There are NO heat races, each division runs 1 long race that is divided into 3 separate segments. Hobo & Thunder Truck classes ran 7 laps in each segment, Pro Street & E-Mod classes ran 10 Laps in each segment, and Modified & Late Model classes ran 15 laps in each segment. Drivers draw a number when they sign in to determine where they will start in the first segment. At the end of the 1st segment, the drivers earn points according to where they finished. For example, 1st place receives 22 points, 2nd place receives 20 points, 3rd gets 18 points, 4th gets 16 points, and so on. How the drivers finish will also determine where they start in the next race. The finish is INVERTED for the next race's starting line up. In other words, the 1st place finisher in the 1st segment will start last in the next race, and the last place finisher will start the next race on the pole. Segment #2 for the class is run, and once again drivers earn points according to where they finish. The order in which the drivers finish in segment #2 in once again inverted, and that is how they line up for the 3rd, and final, segment. Once a division has finished all three segments of its race, the points are all added together, and the driver with the most points in that division is the champion. This venue can be somewhat confusing if you're not used to it! Some of the drivers like this race, and some don't, but as far as the fans are concerned . You definitely get to see A LOT of great racing from all the classes! It's also exciting all the way until the end, because unless you keep track of each race and you're REALLY good at math, you don't know who the winner is until the points are tallied, and Bob, the announcer, calls the champion back out onto the race track. Personally, I REALLY like this race. It's a nice break in the middle of the season; it's LOTS of fun, you see LOTS of racing, and it's anybody's race until the very end of the last segment. E-Mod Segment #1 was first on the agenda. The #25 of Phil Schnarr jumped out to an early lead, followed by the #M17 of Brent Munson in 2nd, and the #4 of John Winters in 3rd. By lap #7, Schnarr had a HUGE lead, and the field was spread out all over the track. Phil Schnarr brought home the checkered flag with a convincing win in the 1st segment. Brent Munson had a strong 2nd place finish, followed by John Winters in 3rd, and Rob Bauman, Sr. in 4th. Modified Segment #1 was next on the agenda. The #22B of Richie Biswell got around the #42 of Matt Smith to move into the lead, and out front is were Biswell stayed. The #28 of "Jammin'" Jimmy Hibser started way back in the 10th spot, but by lap #7, he was up into a battle for the 2nd spot with the #292 of Bobby Allen. Another car on the move was the #25 of Butch Weisser. Weisser started WAY back in 22nd, but quickly made his way through traffic and into the top 5. Richie Biswell held onto the lead and brought home the win. Bobby Allen finished in 2nd, followed by Jimmy Hibser in 3rd, the #192 of Brian Allen in 4th, and Butch Weisser in 5th.The #5 of Danny Glover jumped to an early lead in Hobo Segment #1, bringing the #77 of Cliff Howard and the #22 of Greg Sullivan along with him. The #8 of Eric Wisher, who started 7th, was into 3rd place on the first lap, but he had to pull into the pits with a flat tire. The #77T of Willie Heinz had to work his through a lot of traffic on his way to the front. Heinz started in the 11th position, but by lap #2 he was up to 6th, and just a couple of laps later he was in the top 5. Danny Glover held onto the lead and brought home the checkered flag. Cliff Howard finished 2nd, followed by Willie Heinz in 3rd, Greg Sullivan in 4th, and the #52 of Don Entrekin in 5th. The #M40 of Scott "Scooter" May jumped out front on the first lap of Late Model Segment #1, and he stayed out front all the way to the end. The #11 of Brad Denney didn't draw such a good starting number. Denney began the race way back in the 13th spot, but he didn't waste any time moving up, and he was into the top 5 before lap #4, and into a battle for 2nd with the e #M1 of Dale Munson and the #7 of Will Daniels a few laps later. Once again, Scott May stayed out front all the way from start to finish, and scored the victory. Brad Denney raced his way up to a 2nd place finish, followed by Will Daniels in 3rd, Dale Munson in 4th, and Rob Bauman in 5th.The #12 of Tom Turnbull jumped to an early lead in Pro Street Segment #1, but the #27 of Greg Arnett was close behind. Turnbull got loose coming out of a turn on lap #4, and Arnett seized the opportunity and moved into the lead. The #18 of Terry Pratt, who started 7th, and the #27C of Jim Carter, who started 9th, were moving through traffic in a hurry, and the two of them were into the 4th and 5th spots behind the 2nd place runner, #31 of Pat Knox, by lap #2. Greg Arnett stayed out from all the way to the checkered flag and scored the win, followed by Tom Turnbull in 2nd, Pat Knox in 3rd, Terry Pratt in 4th, and Jim Carter in 5th. The #28 of Ron Wilson was the pole sitter in Thunder Truck Segment #1, and he stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. Wilson may have stayed out front all the way, but there was a lot of great racing going on behind him. The #8 of Dave Collins, who started 4th, also jumped towards the front quickly, moving himself into 2nd place on the 1st lap. The #30 of Gerald Carter started way back in 7th, with the #55 of Roger Nelson behind him in 9th, but both of them had FAST trucks, and they made their way through traffic in a hurry. By lap #2 they were up into the 3rd and 4th spots behind Collins. The #7 of Greg Wells made a nice, last lap pass around the #77 of Jeff Reedy to move into the 5th spot. Ron Wilson scored the win, followed by Dave Collins (#8), Gerald Carter, Roger Nelson, and Greg Wells.Segment #2 races for all divisions started next. Remember, they take the finish from the first segment, turn it backwards, and that's how they lined them up for the 2nd segment, which means that a lot of the faster cars are probably starting in the back. Unfortunately, starting the faster cars in the back often spells trouble, and from the number of caution flags from here on out, that theory certainly proved itself to be true. Caution came out on the first lap in E-Mod Segment #2, with SEVERAL cars getting together in turns #3 & #4. On the restart, the #M17 of Brent Munson, who started 14th, didn't waste any time making his way through traffic, and was in the lead by lap #2 Also moving up fast was the #25 of Phil Schnarr. Schnarr started 15th, but was up to 2nd by lap #6, bringing the #4 of John Winters along with him into 3rd. The #96 of Kirk Anderson, who also started deep in the field, quickly joined the top 5 along with the both #30's, Rob Bauman Sr. and Rob Bauman, Jr. Winters got sideways coming out of turn #4 on the last lap, and opened the door to both Bauman cars. Brent Munson maintained a healthy lead throughout the race, and easily brought home the checkered flag. Phil Schnarr finished 2nd, followed by Kirk Anderson in 3rd, Rob Bauman, Jr., in 4th, and Rob Bauman, Sr. in 5th.
The #29J of Lindell Jewel started 3rd in Late Model Segment #2, but he moved into the lead on the first lap and he stayed out front all the way to the finish. The #11W of Don Wilson, who started in 5th, was also moving up quickly, racing his way to the 2nd spot by lap #3. Coming all the way from 10th and 11th place starting positions were the #11 of Brad Denney and the #M40 of Scott May. Denney and May were both into the top 5 by lap #4, and they weren't done yet! By lap #6, May was up to 2nd, the #11W of Don Wilson was in 3rd, and Denney was in 5th. Denney got under Wilson to take the 4th spot, and on lap #7 he got around May and moved into 2nd. Lindell Jewel was able to hold off the challengers and take home the win. Brad Denney finished 2nd, followed by Scott May in 3rd, Don Wilson in 4th, and the #19 of Tim Morris in 5th. The #81K of Mark Ross may have started in 5th in Pro Street Segment #2, but he was up to 2nd on the first lap, and he was in the lead by lap #2, bringing the #5 of David Harris right along with him. The #27C of Jim Carter, the #18 of Terry Pratt, the #31 of Pat Knox, the #12 of Tom Turnbull, and the #27 of Greg Arnett all started in the back of the pack, but NONE of them stayed there for long! By a lap #2 restart, Pratt was up to 3rd, Turnbull was in 5th, and by lap #4 both Carter and Pratt were also in the top 5. Turnbull came into turn #1 too hard and hit Pratt, causing lost of sheet metal damage to the #18 car, and Pratt was sent to the pits. They got the "extra" sheet metal torn off in a hurry, and sent Pratt back on the track, but since he went to the pits, he had to restart in the back. Pratt didn't stay in the back long, quickly picking off the positions and moving back into the top 5 by the time the white flag came out. Mark Ross stayed out front all the way to score the win, followed by Greg Arnett in 2nd, Pat Knox in 3rd, Jim Carter in 4th, and Terry Pratt finished 5th.The #28 of Ron Wilson may have started last in Thunder Truck Segment #2, but he DID NOT plan to finish there! Wilson was up to 3rd on the first lap, and was challenging the #31 of Harry Fourdyce for the lead by lap #4. Gerald Carter was another truck that was "on the move". Having started back in 7th, Carter was up to 2nd behind Wilson by lap #4, bringing the #55 of Roger Nelson along with him into 3rd, and the #8 of Dave Collins into 4th. Once out front, Ron Wilson had no problem holding onto the lead, and he scored a convincing win. Roger Nelson finished in 2nd, followed by the #8 of Dave Collins in 3rd, Gerald Carter in 4th, and Harry Fourdyce in 5th.
E-Mod Segment #3 was next on the agenda. Caution came out early when the #M17 of Brent Munson, who had a real good shot at winning the whole thing, had to be pushed off the track, something obviously going away on his car. The #64 of Jim Picardi was in the lead on the restart, followed by the #85E of Oscar Everett. After starting WAY in the back, both the #25 of Phil Schnarr and the #96 of Kirk Anderson weren't wasting any time making their way through traffic and moving towards the front. The #30 of Rob Bauman, Sr. was another car that was moving up in a hurry, moving his way all the way up to 2nd by lap #6. Schnarr, who also had a good chance at winning the whole race, had to pull into the pits TWICE, both times with a flat tire, causing him to restart both times at the back of the pack. By lap #6, Anderson had raced his way all the way up to the lead, with Bauman right behind him in 2nd, while the #4 of John Winters was making his way around the #94 of Bobby Schnarr to take the 3rd spot. Kirk Anderson stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag for the win. Rob Bauman, Sr. finished 2nd, followed by John Winters in 3rd, Bobby Schnarr in 4th, and the #3M of Chris McMahill in 5th. The #M21 of Justin Munson started on the pole in Modified Segment #3, with the #88 of Steve David, the #292 of Bobby Allen, and the #22B of Richie Biswell fighting for 2nd. The #25 of Butch Weisser, the #28 of Jimmy Hibser, and the #192 of Brian Allen all had a real good chance at winning the whole thing tonight, but they all started WAY deep in the field and had LOTS of traffic to get through on their way to the front. Hibser, running his usual "top of the track" line, made his way through traffic in a hurry, and was able to pass Munson for the lead by lap #10. Allen was also able to move through traffic quickly, positioning himself in the top 5 by lap #11. Weisser, who was running the lower groove, got caught up in heavy traffic and was unfortunately involved in a lap #13 caution, hindering his chances at making it to the front. Brian Allen got a GREAT run on the last lap, making his way around his brother, Bobby, and challenging Hibser for the lead. Brian Allen was able to complete the "last lap" pass and scored the win. Bobby Allen finished 2nd, followed by Jimmy Hibser in 3rd, Matt Smith in 4th, and Rick Scott in 5th.The #77T of Willie Heinz started on the pole in Hobe Segment #3, and stayed out front all the way to the end. The #47 of Andy Yerbic and the #01 of Rick Diegel got together HARD coming out of turn #2, with Yerbic nearly going over on his hood on the backstretch. Yerbic climbed out of his car right away and ran to check on Diegel, who wasn't moving. The ambulance was immediately called to the track, and there were some scary moments as it took them awhile before they were able to get Rick out of his car. Rick finally climbed from the car and walked to the ambulance, needing to be checked out by the paramedics, but fortunately, Rick was OK. The race got back under way, but not for long. Caution came out again, and for while, it seemed like we were never going to score a lap. Bob, the announcer, even commented to the fans, "Well, for those of you who thought you were going to miss the Fulton County Fair Demolition Derby tonight, HERE IT IS!!" After several more cautions, we finally scored a lap, Heinz still out front, followed by the #5 of Danny Glover and the #77 of Cliff Howard, who both started deep in the field. Willie Heinz held off the competition and stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag, scoring the win. Danny Glover finished 2nd, followed by Cliff Howard in 3rd, Bill Wilhelm in 4th, and Durland Pople in 5th. The #M1 of Dale Munson jumped to an early lead on lap #1 in the Late Model Segment #3, but he soon had the #10M of Chad Pratt all over his back bumper. Pratt got around Munson and moved into the lead on lap #3, bringing the #7 of Will Daniels with him into 3rd. The #30 of Rob Bauman quickly moved into the 4th spot, with the #M40 of Scott May right behind him in 5th. Something went away on both Munson and May's cars, both of them having to take their cars to the pits early in the race. The #29J of Lindell Jewel, who started way back in the 12th spot, raced his way all the way up to a 2nd place battle with Bauman by lap #11. Another car that started deep in the pack was the #11 of Brad Denney, but Brad also had his sights set on the front, and by lap #7 he was in the top 5, and by lap #11 he was in 3rd behind Jewel. Chad Pratt held off the competition and kept the #10M car out front all the way to the checkered flag, scoring the victory. Lindell Jewel finished 2nd, followed by Brad Denney in 3rd, the #11W of Don Wilson in 4th, and Rob Bauman in 5th.The #31K of Ken Gresham, Jr. jumped out to an early lead in the Pro Street Segment #3, but he spun in turns #3 & #4 on the first lap, and had to restart in the back. A LOT of good cars were moving to the front from deep in the pack right from the very start. The #12T of Tom Turnbull, the #18 of Terry Pratt, and the #81K of Mark Ross were all up into the top 5 in a hurry, with the #27 of Greg Arnett and the #27C of Jim Carter coming up right behind them. Pratt was able to get around Turnbull on lap #5 to take the lead, and by lap #6, Ross also made his way around the #12T and took over the 2nd spot. Once out front, Terry Pratt was determined to stay there, and he held off the challengers to bring home the checkered flag. Mark Ross also had his hands full, feeling the pressure from the cars behind him, but he was able to hold everyone off and bring home the 2nd place finish. Greg Arnett finished 3rd, followed by Jim Carter in 4th, and Ken Gresham, Jr. made his way all the way back up to the front for a 5th place finish. The #31 of Harry Fourdyce jumped out front on the first lap of Thunder Truck Segment #3, but the #30 of Gerald Carter was nose-to-nose on his inside by the time they reached the start finish line, challenging for the lead. Carter was able to move into the lead on lap #2, and Fourdyce now had a rearview mirror full of the #28 of Ron Wilson. Wilson was able to get around Fourdyce on lap #4, and he was soon up and challenging Carter for the lead. Ron Wilson got around Carter and moved into the lead on lap #5, and he stayed out front until the end, bringing home the win. Gerald Carter finished 2nd, followed by the #8 of Dave Collins in 3rd, the #55 of Roger Nelson in 4th, and Harry Fourdyce in 5th.
