It was another VERY HOT night tonight, but those that dared to brave the weather weren't sorry. Tonight's races were jam packed with excitement from start to finish.

The #85E of Oscar Everett started on the pole in E-Mod Heat #1, and Everett stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. The #3M of Chris McMahill and the #94 of Bobby Schnarr were racing side-by-side for several laps, battling for the 2nd spot, allowing Everett to open up a "comfy" lead for himself. Everett got loose coming out of the last turn, allowing McMahill to close the gap, but Everett did a nice job getting his car straightened back out. Oscar Everett held onto the lead and scored the win, followed by Chris McMahill in 2nd, Bobby Schnarr in 3rd, and the #42 of Tim Bishop in 4th.

The #96 of Kirk Anderson may have started 5th in E-Mod Heat #2, but by the first lap, Anderson made his way around the competition and was in the lead. By lap #4, Anderson opened up a HUGE lead over the rest of the field, but the field was bunched back up again when caution came out for the #21 of Daryl Barth and the #7W of Mark Branch got together coming out of turn #4. Kirk Anderson got a nice jump on the restart, and he once again opened up a nice lead and convincingly scored the win. The #2T of Don Taylor finished in 2nd, followed by the #1 of Floyd Jordan, Jr. in 3rd, and the #64 of Jim Picardi in 4th.

The #25 of Phil Schnarr may have started last in E-Mod Heat #3, but by lap #3 he was challenging the #30 of Rob Bauman, Jr. for the lead, and by lap #5, Schnarr was out front to stay. The #4 of John Winters and the #30 of Rob Bauman, Sr. were battling for the 3rd and 4th spots, allowing the leaders to put a little "breathing room" between themselves and the rest of the field. Phil Schnarr held onto the lead and took home the checkered flag, followed by Rob Bauman, Jr. in 2nd, John Winters in 3rd, and Rob Bauman, Sr. in 4th.

The #5 of Mike Donaho started on the pole in Modified Heat #1 and led the race most of the way, with the #34 of Bill Anderson and the #42, being driven tonight by Scott May, battling for 2nd right behind him. May got a GREAT run on the last lap, getting around both Anderson and Donaho, and took the lead going into the last turn. Scott May scored the win in the #42 car, followed by Bill Anderson in 2nd, and Mike Donaho in 3rd. The #97P of Phil Johns and the #22B of Richie Biswell were nose to nose at the start-finish line, but Phil Johns had the advantage and brought home the 4th place finish.

The #28 of Phil Schnarr jumped to an early lead in Modified Heat #2, but the race ended early for him on lap #3 with a broken tie rod end. The #48 of Casey Lappin moved into the lead, but he had plenty of company from the #31 of Mark Anderson challenging him for the lead on the restart. At the white flag, Lappin and Anderson were nose-to-nose, and it was too close to tell who had the lead, but Casey Lappin got a GREAT run down the backstretch and beat Anderson to the checkered flag for the win. Mark Anderson finished 2nd, followed by the #4T of Tony Hibser in 3rd, and the #71 of George Hall in 4th.

The #55 of Doug Cosby started on the pole in Modified heat #3, nut the #M21 of Justin Munson was right alongside him challenging for the lead on the 1st lap. The #17, being driven tonight by Tim Lance, ran most of the race all alone in 3rd, but there was a great battle going on behind him for the 4th spot between the #12 of Jason Wagner and the #4W of Mike Whitledge. Doug Cosby was able to hold off the competition and bring home the win. Justin Munson finished in 2nd, followed by Tim Lance in 3rd, and Jason Wagner in 4th.

The #292 of Bobby Allen started on the pole in Modified Heat #4, and he stayed out front all the way to the end. The #25 of butch Weisser, who started back in 4th, was side-by-side with Allen challenging for the lead by lap #2, with the #M1 of Dale Munson right behind them. The #192 of Brian Allen spun on the first lap and had to restart in the back, but he was quickly on the back bumper of Munson in the 4th spot. Bobby Allen was able to hold off the competition and bring home the win. Butch Weisser finished in 2nd, followed by Dale Munson in 3rd, and Brian Allen in 4th. Unfortunately Bobby Allen neglected to go to the scales after the race was over, therefore being disqualified and handing the heat win over to Butch Weisser and 2nd to Dale Munson.

Thunder Truck Heat #1 was pretty uneventful. The #28 of Ron Wilson started on the pole and quickly opened up a HUGE lead. The entire field was spread WAY out, with the #8 of Dave Collins running in 2nd place, and the #31 of Harry Fourdyce running in 3rd. This one ended just like it started; Ron Wilson was the race winner, followed by Dave Collins in 2nd, and Harry Fourdyce in 3rd.

Thunder Truck Heat #2 was almost as uneventful as the first heat. Only two trucks were in the heat, with the #30 of Gerald Carter getting around the #7 of Greg Wells early in the race and opening up a HUGE lead. Gerald Carter scored the convincing win, followed by Greg Wells in 2nd place.

The #7 of Will Daniels may have started 3rd in Late Model Heat #1, but by the time he came out f the 1st turn, he had the lead by at least 3 car lengths! Caution came out a few times during the race, but Daniels jumped out to a BIG lead on each restart, and Will Daniels easily scored the win. The #25K of Bill Kettering finished in 2nd, followed by the #20M of Mike Killion in 3rd, and the #45 of Dwayne Walters in 4th.

Late Model Heat #2 was full of excitement! The #29J of Lindell Jewel started in 3rd, the #11 of Brad Denney started in 4th, and the #10M of Chad Pratt started in 5th, but by lap #1, all three cars were up front and battling for the lead! Denney, Pratt, & Jewel had several laps that were so close at the start-finish line, that I couldn't tell who was out front! Lindell Jewel ran a great race, got a good run on the last lap, and managed to beat the others to the finish line for the win. Chad Pratt came in 2nd, followed by Brad Denney, in 3rd, and the #61 of Tony Talley in 4th place.

Cross Flag The driver of the #11 Late Model, Brad Denney, was another one of the drivers that we had a chance to talk to tonight. Brad races with us from Canton, Illinois. Brad is the defending Track Champion in the Late Model Division, and to no one's surprise, he is currently the points leader for this year. Brad's pit crewmembers include Dave Slayton & Mark Westerfield, and Monica's Pizza, Stone Country, and Denney Farms sponsor his car. Brad say his biggest fans are his family; his wife, Terri, and their children, Crystal, Patrick, & Jillian. When we asked Brad how his car was running, his answer was "all right." I think that was probably a gross understatement, because his car has been nothing short of phenomenal all year! Brad's goal for the season is to win the Tuff Spoon 100, and to win his 9th Season Championship. He's without a doubt on his way to doing both! Brad says the drivers that he looks up to the most are Scott "Scooter" May and his Dad, Morey Denney, because both of them have been a tremendous help throughout his racing career. What does Brad like the most about Spoon River Speedway? It's FAST! The least? Nothing! Brad also wanted to send out a big "THANKS" to everyone for their support. We'd like to thank Brad for taking the time to talk with us this evening, and we'll enjoy watching him race his way closer to that 9th Championship!

The #M40 of Scott May started on the pole in Late Model Heat #3, and when May starts up front, it's a pretty safe bet that that is where he will finish! The #19 of Tim Morris made a nice pass around the #30 of Rob Bauman early in the race to take over the 2nd spot. Scott May opened up a HUGE lead, and once again, Scooter brought home the checkered flag. Tim Morris finished in 2nd place, followed by Rob Bauman in 3rd, and the #59, being driven tonight by Dave Slayton, in 4th.

The #43 of John Heitzman started 3rd in Pro Street Heat #1, but he was up front and challenging the #51 of Don Cooley for the lead on the 1st lap. Cooley got high coming through turns #1 & #2 and got off the high side of the track, bringing out the caution on lap #2. The #31 of Pat Knox got a GREAT start on the restart, and jumped into the lead. Knox opened up a HUMUNGOUS lead by lap #3, with Cooley and Heitzman battling it out for 2nd place. Pat Knox scored a big win, followed by Don Cooley in 2nd, and John Heitzman in 3rd.

The #81K of Mark Ross started on the pole in Pro Street Heat #2, and Ross stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. The #18 of terry Pratt and the #12T of Tom Turnbull battled most of the race for the 2nd spot, with the #5 of David Harris right behind them. On the last lap, Pratt went into turns #3 & #4 WAY too fast, and got hard into the back of the race leader, Ross, causing him to spin. Caution came out, with Pratt having to restart in the rear, and Ross maintaining the lead position. Mark Ross got a nice start on the restart and jumped out front to score the win. Tom Turnbull finished in 2nd place, followed by Terry Pratt in 3rd, and David Harris in 4th.

Cross Flag The driver of the #81K Pro Street, Mark Ross, was one of the drivers that we had a chance to talk with tonight. Mark races with us from Havana, Illinois, and Mark is currently the point's leader in the Pro Street Division. Mark's pit crewmembers include Dave, Kirk, Brandon, Tom, and Butch, and Country Motors in Havana and Subway in Canton & Havana sponsor his car. Marks says his biggest fans are Granny & The Rag. When we asked Mark how his car was running, his answer was "Good." It sure looked GREAT in the heat race, Mark. Mark's goal for the season is to win the point's race, and at the rate he's going, he's definitely headed in the right direction to do just that! What does Mark like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The high banks. The least? Nothing! Mark's motto - "Drive it like you stole it!" Our thanks to Mark for taking time out of his busy evening to talk with us. We certainly wish him the best of luck the rest of the season, and we'll enjoy watching him continue his race towards the point's championship!!

The #31K of Ken Gresham, Jr. started on the pole in Pro Street Heat #3, and he opened up a NICE lead early in the race, but caution came out and bunched the field back up again. The #27C of Jim Carter quickly caught up to Gresham on the restart, was challenging for the lead, and took the spot coming down the backstretch on lap #4. Something went away on Carter's car, causing him to slow WAY down on the last lap, and the #27 of Greg Arnett seized the opportunity, made a nice move coming out of turn #4, and took home the checkered flag. Ken Gresham, Jr. finished in 2nd, followed by the #6H of Brian Harris in 3rd, and Jim Carter coasted across the start-finish line in 4th place.

The #22 of Greg Sullivan started 3rd in Hobo Heat #1, but he got around the #5J of Jim Jorgenson and moved into 2nd on lap #1, and by lap #2 he got around the #64 of Curtis Link and moved into the lead. Greg Sullivan stayed out front and brought home the win, followed by Curtis Link in 2nd, and Jim Jorgenson in 3rd.

The #77 of Cliff Howard started in 2nd in Hobo Heat #2, but he got around the #8 of Clay Wisher on the 1st lap and moved into the lead. The #77T of Willie Heinz, who started back in 4th, was also able to get around Wisher, and moved into the 2nd spot on lap #2. The #52 of Don Entrekin and the #19 of Durland Pople got together on lap #3, and caution was out. Howard got a nice jump on the restart, and Cliff Howard brought home the checkered flag. Willie Heinz finished in 2nd, followed by Clay Wisher in 3rd, and the #5 of Danny Glover in 4th.

E-Mod Feature was next on the agenda, and the caution flag waved again, and again, and again! LOTS of cars got together on the start, bringing the yellow out for the 1st time, and sending at least 3 cars to the pits before the race even started. The #1 of Floyd Jordan, Jr. got around the #4 of John Winters on the restart and quickly moved out front, but the #25 of Phil Schnarr was moving up fast on the high side, and by lap #2, Schnarr was around Jordan and into the lead. Another car moving up fast was the #96 of Kirk Anderson. Anderson started 8th, but by a lap #3 restart, he was up to 3rd and challenging Winters for the 2nd spot. The #M17 of Brent Munson, who started WAY back in 14th, was also moving up in a hurry, racing his way up to 4th by lap #3. Anderson moved into 2nd and was all over the back bumper of Schnarr by lap #8. Contact on lap #11 between the race leaders, Anderson and Schnarr, sent Anderson to the back on the restart, and sent Schnarr to the pits with a flat tire. Brent Munson lined up for the restart in 1st, and was bringing the field down the backstretch, when Schnarr pulled back onto the track and stopped on the front-stretch in front of the flagman. The caution light was still on, but Schnarr was being shown the green flag, and confusion caused several cars to start too soon, piling up most of the field in turns #3 & #4. Schnarr was black flagged, and the yellow & the checkered flags came out at the same time, declaring the race was over. Brent Munson was the race winner, followed by the #30 Rob Bauman, Sr. in 2nd, the #7W of Mark Branch in 3rd, the #30 of Rob Bauman, Jr. in 4th, and John Winters in 5th.

There were 26 Modifieds scheduled to start the Feature, which as most of us know, means it's going to be a VERY LONG race with LOTS of cautions! The #M1 of Dale Munson jumped to an early lead on a lap #2 restart, but the #31 of Mark Anderson was all over his back bumper. Anderson got a good jump on the next restart, and took the lead from Munson, but caution came out again. Something went away on the #48 of Casey Lappin, and he had slowed WAY down on the front-stretch, trying to get his car off the track, when the #69 of Randy Stuber, who didn't see that Lappin had slowed down, came out of turn #4 and literally drove over Lappin and into the wall. Both cars, especially the #48, suffered MAJOR damage and had to leave the track on a hook. The #192 of Brian Allen moved up into 4th on the restart, but caution came out again. Anderson got another GREAT start on the restart and opened up a BIG lead for himself, but by lap #9, Dale Munson had closed the gap. Brian Allen moved up to 3rd on a lap #12 restart, with the #17 of Tim Lance right behind him moving up into 4th. Caution came out again on lap #18 when Dale Munson blows an engine, with LOTS of flames coming from the #M1 car. The red flag came out due to the fire, when the #34 of Bill Anderson, who had made his way up to 6th, was disqualified for having a pit crewmember out on the track under the red flag. By the time they were lined up and ready to start again, ONLY 9 CARS were left, and they were given the yellow and the checkered flag on the lap #18 restart. Anderson got another good start, and he loved the battle for 2nd going on behind him for 2nd between Allen and Lance. Mark Anderson stayed out front and brought home the Feature win. Brian Allen finished in 2nd, followed by the #97P of Phil Johns in 3rd, Tim Lance in 4th, and the #55 of Doug Cosby in 5th.

Cross Flag Tonight's Feature winner, the driver of the #31 Modified, Mark Anderson, was another one of the drivers that we were able to talk to tonight. Mark races with us from Canton, Illinois and he is currently 3rd in the point's race in the Modified Division. Mark's pit crewmembers include Bill Anderson, Marilyn Anderson, and Terri Myers and Brew-N-Cue and Canton City Pool League sponsor his car. Mark says his biggest fans are his Mom, his Dad, and his girlfriend. When we asked Mark how his car was running, his answer was "Good". It looked more like "Awesome" in tonight's feature, Mark! Mark's goal for the season is simple …….. "Win"! And he's sure been doing a lot of that here lately! The driver that Mark looks up to the most is Phil Johns, because Phil, along with Greg Gilmore, have taught him everything he knows about racing. What does Mark like the best about Spoon River Speedway? It's the best track in the country to race on. The least? Inconsistency. Our thanks to Mark for taking the time to visit with us tonight and we'll look forward seeing him "out front" a lot more this season.

The Thunder Truck Feature finished almost exactly like it started. The #8 of Dave Collins started on the pole, and while he did have some pressure from the #30 of Gerald Carter making a challenge for the lead, he was able to stay out front all the way to the checkered flag. The #31 of Harry Fourdyce, who started 5th, got around the #7 of Greg Well and moved into the 4th spot, but he ran out of time before he could catch the leaders. Dave Collins held onto the lead all the way and brought home the win. Gerald Carter finished in 2nd, followed by the #28 of Ron Wilson in 3rd, Harry Fourdyce in 4th, and Greg Wells in 5th.

The #M40 of Scott "Scooter" May started 4th in the Late Model Feature, but by the time he reached the start-finish line on lap #2, he was in the lead and he was there to stay. Unfortunately, at the same time that Scott "checked out", so did my cassette tape! I ran out of tape and wasn't able to record the rest of the action, but Scott "Scooter" May stayed out front all the way to the end and won the Late Model Feature. The #11 of Brad Denney, who started way back in the 7th spot, finished in 2nd, followed by the #19 of Tim Morris in 3rd, the #7 of Will Daniels in 4th, and the #10M of Chad Pratt in 5th.

My apologies to the Hobo Division for not getting any of their race on tape. They ran a GREAT race, full of excitement from start to finish, and this is how they finished. The #8 of Clay Wisher was the Hobo Feature winner. The #77 of Cliff Howard finished in 2nd, followed by the #77T of Willie Heinz in 3rd, the #35 of Josh Smith in 4th, and the #19 of Durland Pople in 5th.

Cross Flag The Feature winner, the driver of the #8 Hobo, Clay Wisher, was also able to spend some time with us tonight. Clay and his cousin, Eric Wisher, share the driving responsibilities in the #8 car, and they are currently 3rd in the point's race in the Hobo Division. Clay & Eric race with us from Pekin, Illinois. Their pit crewmembers include Toby Crawford, Ron Wilson, Ryan Wilson, Joe Wilkon, Johnny Nash, and Richard Diegel, and Wilson Towing, FX for Hair, Vachon Brakes, and Pekin Welders, sponsors their car. Clay says their biggest fans are Taylor Wisher, Melissa Wisher, Sue Wilson, Sharon & Justice Wilson, and the Crawford family. When we asked Clay how his car was running, his answer was "Good, no GREAT!" It definitely looked more like "GREAT" or even "AMAZING" in the Feature! Clay's goal for the evening was not to tear up the car, and to win the feature, which he did very convincingly. The driver that Clay looks up to the most is Ron Wilson, because he dominates the competition. What does Clay like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The size of the track and the speed. The least? Not enough water on the track causing to go "dry-slick" all the time. Our thanks to Clay for taking the time to talk with us tonight. We'd also like to congratulate him on a great Feature win - I think we'll be seeing him up front a lot more this season!

Once again, a big "THANK YOU" tonight to Brad Denney, Mark Anderson, Mark Ross, & Eric Wisher for taking the time out of their busy night to talk to us. We'd like to wish them all a very safe & successful racing season.

THERE WAS A LOT OF GREAT RACING TONIGHT!

HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE OUT AT SPOON RIVER SPEEDWAY NEXT SATURDAY!!!

You'll see the best DIRT TRACK RACING around ……… guaranteed!!!
