The weather man kept promising severe storms all day, but Mother Nature cooperated and gave us an absolutely beautiful night for racing. The temperature was perfect, the humidity had all but vanished, and the rain earlier in the week made the track wet, tacky, and FAST! It was going to be a great night of racing!

The excitement started early in E-Mod Heat #1, with the #5 of Jake Helfers, the #3M of Chris McMahill and the #M3 of Chuck McDonald coming out of turn #4 THREE WIDE battling for the lead on the first lap! McMahill won the battle and moved out front on lap #2. The #42 of Tim Bishop, who started in the very back of the field, was moving up in a hurry. By lap #5, Bishop was around Helfers and up into the 3rd position. Chris McMahill stayed out front until the end and brought home the win. Chuck McDonald finished in 2nd, followed by Tim Bishop in 3rd, and Jake Helfers in 4th.

The #30 of Rob Bauman, Sr. started on the pole in E-Mod Heat #2, and he stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. The #4 of John Winters and the #29 of Chad Terwilliger battles for 2nd place for the first two laps, but the #25 of Phil Schnarr got around Terwilliger on lap #3, and quickly put pressure on Winters as well. With all the racing for position going on behind him, Rob Bauman, Sr. easily took the #30 car to the Winner's Circle. Phil Schnarr finished in 2nd, followed by john Winters in 3rd, and Chad Terwilliger in 4th.

Cross Flag The driver of the yellow E-Mod #30, Rob Bauman, Sr., was one of the drivers we had the chance to talk with tonight. Rob races with us from Fairview, Illinois, and he is currently the point's leader in the very competitive E-Mod Division. Rob's pit crewmembers include Jim Wenchell, Willie B., Robbie, and Jake Watson, and Red Brand Credit Union sponsors his car. Rob says his biggest fans are his family, and he loves racing against his son, Rob, Jr. When we asked Rob how his car was running, his answer was "Good". I think that was an understatement, because the sure looked GREAT in tonight's heat race, Rob!! Rob's goal for the season is to win the points Championship again this year, and he's definitely on the right track to do just that. The driver that Rob looks up to the most is Alan Kulwicki, because he did it all on his own through his career. What does Rob like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The high banks, the wide track, and it's FAST! The least? The lateness in getting out every night. Rob wanted to thank his car owner, his sponsors, and the fans for their support all season. He'd also like to thank Spoon River Speedway for such a great place to run. Our thanks to Rob for taking the time to talk with us this evening, and we'll certainly be watching for him to finish up front a lot more this season.

The #64 of Jim Picardi and the #M17 of Brent Munson were nose-to-nose battling for the lead in E-Mod Heat #3, but Munson came out ahead, and took the lead on lap #1. The #96 of Kirk Anderson, which was being driven tonight by Kirk's son, quickly got around Picardi to move up to 2nd, and then set his sights on the race leader. Anderson got around Munson and into the lead on lap #3 and he stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. Kirk Anderson, Jr. was the race winner, followed by Rob Bauman, Jr. in 2nd, Brent Munson in 3rd, and Jim Picardi in 4th.

Caution came out early in Modified Heat #1 for the #J12 of Jason Wagner getting into the turn #2 mine tires. Wagner suffered considerable damage to his car and had to be towed to the pits, but fortunately he would make it back out later for the feature event. Since no laps were scored, they went back to the original line up for the restart. All five cars ran the whole race "single file", with not one pass, or even a challenge for position, and the race finished exactly like it started. The #28 of Jimmy Hibser was the race winner, followed by the #26 of JD Beal in 2nd, the #88 of Steve David in 3rd, the #5 of Mike Donaho in 4th, and the #22B of Richie Biswell in 5th.

The #28 of Phil Schnarr started on the pole in Modified Heat #2, and with all the fighting for position going on behind him, he opened up a BIG lead by lap #4. The #25 of Butch Weisser, the #71 of George Hall, and the #17 of Rick Scott, Jr. were THREE WIDE on the start, all battling for the 2nd spot. A lap later, the #292 of Bobby Allen joined in the contest for 2nd place, and they were an amazing FOUR WIDE coming out of turn #4!! With all the racing going on behind him, Phil Schnarr easily stayed out front and brought home the checkered flag. Bobby Allen finished in 2nd, followed by Butch Weisser in 3rd, and Rick Scott, Jr. in 4th.

The #192 of Brian Allen jumped to an early lead in Modified Heat #3, but he soon had LOTS of company from the #M21, being driven tonight by Dale Munson. Allen and Munson battled for the lead, allowing the #31 of Mark Anderson to close in behind them. On lap #5, Anderson got under Munson and moved into the 2nd spot, and immediately moved up to challenge Allen for the lead. Mark Anderson made an AWESOME last turn pass and took the lead, just in time to score the win. Brian Allen finished in 2nd, followed by the #M21 of Dale Munson in 3rd, and the #34 of Bill Anderson in 4th.

Cross Flag The driver of the #98 Modified, Andy Riggins, was another driver that we were able to spend some time with this evening. Andy races with us from Macomb, Illinois, and although this only his 2nd year in racing, he is currently tied for 14th in the points standings in the highly competitive Modified Division. Andy's pit crewmembers include himself and JD, Larry, and Cheryl Beal, and Beal's Garage, Midwest Oil, Chat, LTD, and West Pierce Liquors sponsor his car. Andy says his biggest fans are his wife, Holly, and their 17-month-old daughter, Katie. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Andy's daughter, Katie, during last week's races. She may be only 17 months old, but believe me when I tell you, she definitely knows Daddy's car in a second when it pulls out onto the track, and she knows which car belongs to Uncle JD, too!! When we asked Andy how his car was running, his answer was "Hit & miss. It's consistent with front end problems!" Andy's goal was to finish in the Top 15 in the points this year, and right now he's one spot ahead of that goal, and I don't think he's done moving up yet! The driver that Andy looks up to the most is his brother-in-law, JD Beal, because JD has taught him a lot about racing. What does Andy like the most about Spoon River Speedway? There's plenty of room to race. The least? The inconsistency of the track; one week it's heavy, the next week it's dry slick; it's hard to know what to expect or what to set up for. Andy wanted to send out a big "Thank You" to all his sponsors, and especially to Larry & JD for all their help! Our thanks to Andy for taking the time to talk with us tonight. Keep your eyes on Andy; he might be new to the game, but he's already proven himself to be a "real player" in a Modified!

The #42 of Tom Wirebaugh started on the pole in Thunder Truck Heat #1, and he stayed out front all the way to the end. Wirebaugh opened up a BIG lead by lap #3, with the #47 of Andy Yerbic running in the 2nd position. David Boyer spun coming out of turn #4 and took a HARD hit into the front stretch mine tires, causing severe damage to the #29 truck, and ending his chances for a good finish. Tom Wirebaugh scored a very convincing win, followed by Andy Yerbic in 2nd, and the #23 of Mike Weatherby in 3rd.

The #30 of Gerald Carter may have lined up in the 3rd spot for Thunder Truck Heat #2, but by the time they reached turn #1, Carter was out front and in the lead, bringing the #28 of Ron Wilson along with him into 2nd. Carter and Wilson broke away from the rest of the field, leaving the #31 of Harry Fourdyce and the #26 of Ryan Wilson battling for 3rd place behind them. Gerald Carter scored another strong win, followed by Ron Wilson in 2nd, and Harry Fourdyce in 3rd. The #7 of Greg Wells made a GREAT last turn pass to finish in the 4th spot, and Ryan Wilson finished in 5th.

The #77 of Jim Hagedorn started 3rd in Late Model Heat #1, but he was out front and in the lead IN A BIG WAY by lap #1! The #11 of Don Wilson was moving up in a hurry, making his way around the #45 of Dwayne Walters and the #61 of Tony Talley, and taking over the 2nd spot. Caution came out on lap #5, bunching the field up again, and Wilson was able to close in on Hagedorn. Wilson made a last lachallenge for the lead, but Jim Hagedorn was able to hold him off and score the win. Don Wilson finished in 2nd, followed by Tony Talley in 3rd, and the #5F of Stan Fanning in 4th.

The #M40 of Scott May also started his heat race in the 3rd spot, but like most of the races he's in, he was out front and in the lead on the first lap! The #29J of Lindell Jewell and the #59 of Dave Slayton battled for 2nd, with the #11 of Brad Denney, the #14 of Brent Nelson and the #6 of Kevin Seago THREE WIDE behind them fighting for 4th! May opened up a BIG lead (no surprise there, either!) and scored a strong win. Jim Seago quickly made his way through heavy traffic to finish in 2nd, followed by Brad Denney in 3rd, Lindell Jewell in 4th, and Brent Nelson in 5th.

The #10M of Chad Pratt jumped to an early lead in Late Model Heat #3, but the car got loose on lap #1, he lost a couple of spots, and he seemed to have his hands pretty full the rest of the race trying to keep control of his car. The #3G of Bob Goodin took advantage of Pratt's mishandling car and got around the #10M and moved in to the lead on lap #2. Goodin opened up a nice lead, leaving the #19 of Tim Morris, the #82 of Floyd Jordan, Sr., and Pratt battling for the 2nd spot. Bob Goodin Had a LOT of smoke coming from his car when he crossed the start/finish line, but it held together just long enough to score the convincing heat race win. Tim Morris finished in 2nd. Floyd Jordan, Sr. finished 3rd the first time out in a in a brand new Late Model, followed by Chad Pratt finished in 4th.

Only two cars started in Pro Street Heat #1, and the #6H of Brian Harris jumped out front on the 1st lap, and he stayed out front until the end. The #4S of Jeff Smith had trouble and had to pull to the pits before the race was over, leaving Harris on the track all alone. Brian Harris was the race winner, and Jeff Smith finished in 2nd.

The #18 of Terry Pratt started on the pole in Pro Street Heat #2, but he soon had LOTS of company from both the #27 of Greg Arnett and the #12 of Tom Turnbull. Arnett challenged for the lead on lap #4, but came into turns #3 & #4 a little "too hot" and spun, forcing him to restart in the back. Turnbull got a great jump on the restart, and took the lead coming out of turn #4, as Pratt was way off pace, something going away on his car and forcing him to pull into the pits. Tom Turnbull scored the heat race win, followed by Greg Arnett in 2nd, Ken Gresham, Jr. in 3rd, and Terry Pratt in 4th.

Cross Flag The driver of the #18 Pro Street, Terry Pratt, was also one of the drivers that we talked with tonight. Terry races with us from Bath, Illinois, and he is currently 2nd in the point's standings in the Pro Street Division. Terry's pit crewmembers include Lee Troxell, Chad Pratt, and Tim Morris, and Pratt Woodshop and STP Automotive sponsor his car. Terry says his biggest fans are his Mom & Dad. When we asked Terry how his car was running, his answer was "Good." It has sure looked WAY BETTER than "good" all season long! Terry's goal for the season is to finish 2nd in the points, but he's also hoping for a Season Championship. The driver that Terry looks up to the most is Chad Pratt, because Chad helps him with his car all the time. What does Terry like the most about Spoon River Speedway? There's plenty of room to pass. The least? It goes "dry slick" all the time. Our thanks to Terry for taking the time to visit with us tonight. We wish him the best of luck the rest of the season, and we'll certainly enjoy cheering him on as he races his way closed to the Championship!

The #312 of Pat Knox started on the pole in Pro Street Heat #3, and he managed to stay out front all the way to the checkered flag. Attrition was high in the Pro Street class tonight, with the #27C of Jim Carter slowing on lap #2 and taking his car to the pits early in this race. The #81K of Mark Ross closed the gap between himself and Knox, and he was ALL OVER the back bumper of Knox on the last lap, making a challenge for the lead. Knox was able to hold off the charge from Ross, and pat Knox brought home the checkered flag. Mark Ross finished in 2nd, followed by David Harris in 3rd, and Jim Carter in 4th.

The #91 of Nick Christian started on the pole in Hobo Heat #1, but he soon had LOTS of company from his teammate, the #5J of Jim Jorgenson. Christian and Jorgenson ran side-by-side all the way around the track for the 1st lap, but Jorgenson had the advantage and took the lead on lap #2. Christian tried to battle back, but came into turns #1 & #2 too fast, causing him to spin, and bringing out the caution. Christian got a GREAT jump on the restart, quickly getting around the #99X of Ron Egli and moving into the 2nd position, and he quickly set his sights back on the race leader. Nick Christian made a nice, last corner pass to get around Jorgenson and bring home the heat race win. Jim Jorgenson finished in 2nd, followed by Ron Egli in 3rd.

Cross Flag The driver of the #5J Hobo, Jim Jorgenson, was another one of the drivers that we were able to talk with tonight. Jim races with from Canton, Illinois, and he is currently 9th in the point's standings in the Hobo Division. Jim's pit crewmembers include Jody, Ellen, and nick Christian, and Doc's Service and Moshires Pools sponsor his car. Jim says his biggest fans are his children, Jayme, John and Justin. When we asked Jim how his car was running, his answer was "Fair". It sure looked GREAT running up front in most of tonight's heat race! Jim's goal for the season is to finish in the Top Ten in the point's standings, and if he keeps up the great driving, he's sure to do just that! The driver that Jim looks up to the most is Phil Johns, because of Phil's ability to drive a racecar. What does Jim like the most about Spoon River Speedway? The track itself. The least? It seems like the officials don't always follow the rules, but he still believes that Spoon River Speedway is a good place to race! Our thanks to Jim for taking the time to visit with us this evening. We wish him a strong finish this season, and we'll look forward to watching him climb even higher in the point's race!

Hobo Heat #2 started exactly the way it started, with a lot of great driving, but no changes in position. The #52 of Don Entrekin, who started on the pole, stayed out front all the way to the end and brought home the checkered flag. The #64 of Curtis Link finished in 2nd, followed by the #35 of Josh Smith in 3rd, and the #22 of Greg Sullivan in 4th.

The #77 of Cliff Howard started 3rd in Hobo Heat #3, but he was around both the #77T of Willie Heinz and the #8 of Clay Wisher and in the lead on lap #1. Heinz and Clay battled for 2nd throughout the entire race, and they were literally "nose-to-nose" at the start/finish line lap after lap. Cliff Howard scored another strong win. Clay Wisher finished in 2nd by inches over Willie Heinz, and the #19 of Durland Pople came in 4th.

The #M17 of Brent Munson started on the pole in the E-Mod Feature event, but he soon had LOTS of company! The #25 of Phil Schnarr, who started 5th, and the #30 of Rob Bauman, Jr., who started 4th, were up front and challenging for the lead by lap #3. Schnarr tried to squeeze in between Munson and Bauman, Jr. coming out of turn #2 down the backstretch, but Bauman, Jr. won the race to turn #3 and took over the lead on lap #5. Munson, Bauman, Jr. and Schnarr were THREE WIDE through the corner on lap #8, fighting for the lead, with the #96 of Kirk Anderson lurking right behind them, just waiting for an opportunity to open up in front of him. Anderson got the opening he was waiting for, and moved into the 3rd spot on lap #10. Schnarr was ALL OVER the back bumper of Munson for almost the entire race, and he got a GREAT run coming out of the last turn, and took the position away right before the start/finish line. Phil Schnarr scored the win, with Brent Munson by his side in 2nd. Kirk Anderson finished in 3rd, followed by Rob Bauman, Jr. in 4th, and the #4 of John Winters in 5th.

The #31 of Mark Anderson started 3rd in the Modified Feature event, but he was up to 2nd on lap #2, and by lap #3, he was challenging the #292 of Bobby Allen for the lead. Bobby held Mark off for several more laps, but the two of them battling so hard for position allowed a few more cars to move their way to the front. The #192 of Brian Allen, who started in 6th, and the #17 of Rick Scott, Jr., who started 11th, were both up front and in the top five by lap #5. Anderson was able to get around Allen for the lead on lap #7, leaving the battle for 2nd spot between the two Allen brothers. Brian outran his brother, Bobby, and took over the 2nd spot on lap #12, and then he set his sights on the race leader, Anderson. Mark Anderson had opened up a nice lead for himself, and he easily stayed out front and brought home the Feature win. Brian Allen finished in 2nd, followed by his brother, Bobby Allen in 3rd, Rick Scott, Jr. in 4th, and the #28 of Phil Schnarr in 5th.

The #30 of Gerald Carter started on the pole in the Thunder Truck Feature, and once again, he stayed out front all the way to the end. Carter must be somewhat of a "loner", because he sure enjoys running ALL ALONE on the racetrack. He opened up a BIG lead on the 1st lap, and before the race was over, his lead was HUMUNGOUS! There was some close racing for position going on further back in the field, but it was a little "too close" when three trucks got tangled up on the front stretch on lap #8. The #26 of Ryan Wilson, the #8 of Dave Collins, and the #7 of Greg Wells were all involved, and unfortunately, they all suffered considerable damage and had to leave the race early. Only five trucks were left on the restart, and once again, Gerald Carter pulled away from the rest of the field, and he won the Feature by a BIG margin. The #31 of Harry Fourdyce finished in 2nd, followed by the #41 of Tom Wirebaugh in 3rd, the #47 of Andy Yerbic in 4th, and the #88 of Dave Collins in 5th.

The #M40 of Scott "Scooter" May started on the pole in the Late Model Feature, and Scott stayed out front from flag to flag. The #11 of Brad Denney started back in the 7th position, but by lap #4 he was up to 3rd, and a lap later he took over the 2nd spot. The #29J of Lindell Jewell was also moving up in a hurry. Jewell started back in 8th, but by lap #4, he was also up racing in the Top five, and by lap #7, he got around the #19 of Tim Morris and moved into the 3rd position. Morris wasn't giving up though, taking the 3rd spot back from Jewell on lap #8. Morris and Jewell traded the spot "back and forth" for a few laps, but Jewell came out the victor on lap #10, and he held onto 3rd until the end of the race. The #10 of Chad Pratt jumped into the battle with Morris, challenging for the 4th spot by lap #12. When starting on the pole, Scott May usually tends to "not play well with others", and open up a BIG lead for himself, and tonight was no exception. Scott May dominated the Late Model Feature from start to finish and once again took the #M40 to the winner's circle. Brad Denney finished in a strong 2nd, followed by Lindell Jewell in 3rd, Chad Pratt in 4th, and Tim Morris in 5th.

The #31K of Ken Gresham, Jr. started on the pole in the Pro Street Feature, but he had LOTS of company in a hurry from the #81K of Mark Ross and the #27 of Greg Arnett. Ross and Arnett battled for several laps for the 2nd position, which allowed the #31 of Pat Knox and the #27C of Jim Carter to also close in on the Top five. On lap #8, Ross took the lead from Gresham, literally "by a nose" at the start/finish line, and Ross stayed out front until the end. Arnett also got around Gresham, and he moved up to the 2nd spot on lap #13. Knox and the #18 of Terry Pratt were side-by-side on the last lap, battling for the 5th position, but Knox was able to hold off Pratt and keep the spot. Once again, Mark Ross scored a strong Feature win. Greg Arnett finished in 2nd, followed by Ken Gresham, Jr. in 3rd, Jim Carter in 4th, and Pat Knox in 5th.

The #8 of Clay Wisher started on the pole in the Hobo Feature, and Wisher kept his car out front from flag to flag. Attrition was unusually high for the Hobo Division, and the caution flag came out several times before a single lap was scored. The #77 of Cliff Howard, who originally lined up in 4th, had moved his way up to 2nd place on a lap #1 restart, with the #64 of Curtis Link right behind him. The #77T of Willie Heinz, who started way back in 9th, was up to 5th on the restart, and he quickly made his way through traffic and into the 3rd spot. Wisher and Howard broke away from the rest of the field, and Heinz was running all alone in 3rd, when caution cam out again on lap #8 and bunched the field up all over again. Howard got a GREAT jump on the restart, and quickly challenged Wisher for the lead, with Heinz ALL Over their back bumpers waiting for an opening. Clay Wisher managed to hold of the competition, and he took home the Feature win. Cliff Howard finished in 2nd, followed by Willie Heinz in 3rd, the #22 of Greg Sullivan in 4th, and the #19 of Durland Pople in 5th.

Once again, a big "THANK YOU" tonight to
Jim Jorgenson, Terry Pratt, Rob Bauman, Sr., and Andy Riggins,
for taking the time out of their busy night to talk to us. We'd like to wish them all a very safe & successful racing season.

THERE WAS A LOT OF GREAT RACING TONIGHT! HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE OUT AT SPOON RIVER SPEEDWAY NEXT SATURDAY!!!
