Each week we'd like to profile some different drivers and introduce them and their crews to the fans.

Last weekend's races were once again a rain out, and although it was "beyond chilly", fans got what they came for, GREAT dirt track racing. We had a great turn out tonight … 116 cars total!!!!

E-mod heat races were first on the venue. The #29 of Chad Terwillger started in the 2nd position, but by turn #4 was able to get around the #25 of Phil Schnarr to take the lead. Brett Munson, #M17, started in the 5th spot, but was not content to stay there for very long. By lap #2, Munson made a great pass to take second place from Schnarr, and by lap #4 he got around Terwillger for the lead. Munson was able to hold to a strong lead for the win, followed by Terwillger in 2nd, the #4 of John Winters finished 3rd, and Tim Bishop in the #42 came in 4th.

Chad Terwillger Second place finisher, Chad Terwillger was one of the driver's we had the chance to talk to this evening. Chad races with us from Avon, Illinois. His #29 E-mod is sponsored by MRE Racecars, and Terwillger Trucking. His pit crew consists of himself and Bernie Terwillger. Chad says his biggest fans are his Mom and his girlfriend. When we asked Chad how his car was running, he said "good", which was easy to see from the great driving he did in his heat race. Chad's goals for this year are simple …….. WIN! One of the drivers that Chad looks up to the most is Dale Munson, because Dale has helped him out so much. What Chad likes most about racing at Spoon River is the track itself. "It's FAST, and the only 3/8 mile track around". What Chad likes the least is the lighting and the speakers. Chad's final comments, "We're hoping for a good, safe season". Our thanks to Chad for spending some time talking to us, and we certainly wish him & his team a great season.

E-mod heat #2 saw a lot of cars move up through traffic very quickly. The #M3 of Chuck McDonald may have started in the 3rd spot, but by turn #1 he was already up to the lead, and quickly out front to a BIG lead. A real battle was heating up for the 2nd spot between the #1 of Floyd Jordan, Jr., the #96 of Kirk Anderson, and the #85E of Oscar Everett. Anderson won the 2nd place battle, and quickly put a lot of ground between himself and the fight for 3rd, between Jordan and Everett. McDonald easily finished in 1st, Anderson in 2nd, Jordan won the battle for 3rd, with Everett finishing 4th.

Rob Bauman, #30, may have started in the 2nd position in E-mod Heat #3, but by turn #1 he was in the lead, and he was there to stay, dominating the entire heat race. There was a lot of great door to door racing going on for 2nd place between the #2 of Don Taylor, the #7W of Mark Branch, and the #6 of TJ Bolen. Taylor was able to hold onto his position for a 2nd place finish, followed by Branch in 3rd, and Bolen in 4th.

Modified Heat #1 was next on the agenda, and it was all Brian Lynn. Lynn's #72 started in the 4th position, but quickly moved to the lead and stretched out to a BIG lead. The M21 of Dale Munson, the #28 of Phil Schnarr, and the #98 of Andy Riggins were having a great race for 2nd. Caution came out on lap #5 when the #69 of Randy Stuber took a HARD hit into the front wall, and then into the mine tires. Stuber was OK, but was finished for the race. The #72 of Brian Lynn got a great start on the restart and claimed the win, followed by Munson in 2nd, Schnarr in 3rd, and Riggins in 4th.

Modified Heat #2 saw the #31 of Mark Anderson get out to an early lead. Casey Lappin, #48, moved into 2nd spot with a great move in turns 3 & 4 in between the #22B of Richie Biswell and the #79 of Mike Shockency. Anderson found himself WAY out front when he came to the checkered flag in first place, and Lappin finished 2nd. Several cars got together coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, but Biswell was able to avoid the mayhem and finished 3rd, followed by Shockency in 4th.

Modified Heat #3 had Anderson written all over it, too. The #34 of Bill Anderson was on the move, coming from a 4th place start all the way to the lead by lap #4. The #25 of Butch Weisser, who started 7th, was also moving up fast, passing the #28 of Jim Hibser for 3rd place by lap #3. Caution came out on lap #5 for a flat tire on Hibser's car. Anderson got a GREAT restart, and moved out to a comfortable lead to take the checkered flag home. The #192 of Brian Allen and the #25 of Butch Weisser got together on the front stretch racing for 2nd place, with Allen taking a wild ride up and over the left front tire of Weisser. The #292 of Bobby Allen was able to capitalize on the contact and move up to a 2nd place finish. Coming in 3rd was the #12, followed in 4th by Brian Allen, #192.

The #97P of Phil Johns started Modified heat #4 on the pole, and out front is where he stayed. Johns got a good jump on the start and moved out to a comfortable lead, but the #26 of JD Beal was coming up fast, putting the pressure on Johns by lap #3. Johns was able to hold onto the lead, finishing 1st. Beal came in 2nd, followed by the #23S of Flip Shickle in 3rd, and the C40 of Mike Chasteen in 4th.

Hobo Heat #1 saw the #5 car of Danny Glover, Jr. line up in the 4th starting position, but he was out front to a HUGE lead by lap #2. Glover's car was smoking badly, but it held together and he stayed out front all the way to the checkered flag. The #18 of Clayton Murphy, who lined up in the 3rd spot, had a great race to finish 2nd. The #55 of Frank Henrickson came in 3rd, followed by the #22 of Greg Sullivan in 4th.

The #711 of Kelly Pritchard started Hobo Heat #2 from the 5th spot, but by lap #2, Pritchard had already maneuvered his way to the front. The #77T of Willie Heinz, who started 4th, was closing in, having moved himself into 2nd place. Heinz almost got turned around trying to make a move under Pritchard in turns 1 & 2, and opened the door for the #8 car of Eric Wisher. Pritchard hung on for the win, followed by the Wisher in 2nd and Heinz finishing 3rd.

Hobo Heat #3 had more than its fair share of caution flags, but by lap #1 the #55 of Craig Hoffman found itself out front. Caution came a 2nd time, and the #01 of Rick Diegel got a great restart to move himself ahead of the Hoffman and into the lead. The #02 of Eric Whittington came right along with him, moving in for a 2nd place finish. Hoffman finished 3rd, and the #27 of Don Bruce came in 4th.

Late Model Heat #1 saw an early caution flag when the #59 of Morey Denney and the #29J of Lindell Jewell got together in turn 2. There was a lot of sheet metal damage to Denney, forcing him to pull into the pits. The #19 of Tim Morris got a good restart, but by the 2nd lap, the M1 of Dale Munson was putting the pressure on. Munson tried to get under Morris on lap #2, but couldn't complete the pass. On lap #5, Munson tried the high side of turn #4, and was able to take the lead. Munson held the lead to finish first, with Morris right behind in 2nd. The F13 of Dawn Mennel had a 3rd place finish, followed by Jewel in 4th.

There are only two words to describe Late Model Heat #2 - SCOTT MAY. The #M40 of Scooter May started in the 3rd spot, but immediately jumped into the lead, and opened up a HUGE gap between himself and the rest of the field. The caution came out for the #25K of Bill Kettering and the #45 of Brian Crebo getting together in turn #4. The 69K suffered the worst of the incident, taking a hard hit into the wall and landing on the front stretch with smoke & flames coming from underneath the car. Scooter got a good start on the restart and had little trouble moving to another HUGE lead, and staying there to capture the win. The #61 of Tony Talley finished 2nd, and the #45 of Dwayne Walters came in 3rd.

Late Model Heat #3 saw the #10M of Chad Pratt quickly move up from a 5th to 3rd on the first lap, but Pratt spins on lap #2 trying to get a run on the #11 of Brad Denney. The #14 of Brett Nelson, who started in the 4th spot, quickly moved his way up to the front, and was able to hold on to the lead for the win. There was a lot of good racing for 2nd between Denney and the #68 of Lance Alcorn, but Alcorn was able to capture 2nd place. Denney finished 3rd, followed by Pratt in 4th.

Pro Street Heat #1 saw the #M80 of Kelly Murphy jump out to an early lead, but right on his rear bumper was the #81K of Mark Ross and the #101 of Richard Cozad. Ross was able to get around Murphy and take the lead by lap #3. Caution came out on lap #5 for debris, obviously something going away on the #M80 of Murphy, who pulled off the track. Ross a GREAT start on the restart and stayed out front to take the checkered flag. The #69 of Tim Faulkenberry finished 2nd, followed by Cozad in third.

Pro Street Heat #2 saw the #37 of Greg Arnett start on the pole. Arnett got a good start and jumped out to a BIG lead. A great race was shaping up for 2nd place between the #18 of Terry Pratt, the 31K of Ken Gresham, and #C90 of John Farris. There was a lot of shuffling back and forth between the drivers, but Farris was able to get a great run through turns 3 & 4 to beat the others to the flag. Pratt finished 3rd, followed by Gresham in 4th.

Ken Gresham Ken Gresham, the driver of the #31K Pro Street, was another one of the drivers we had the opportunity to meet this week. Ken races with us from Metamora, Illinois. Pit members on the #31K team include Chris Mitchell, Butch McLeary, and Ken Gresham, and the team is sponsored by Armature Motor & Pump and K B Motor Specialist. Ken's biggest fans are Alyssa, and his Mom, Lucy. When asked how his car was running, Ken said not too bad, but it was pushing and they were going to try a new set up. It looked like they hit the set up right, because Ken's car was handling GREAT in the heat race. Ken's goals for the season include a heat race win, and a top 5 feature finish. The driver he looks up to the most is Mike Chasteen, because Mike has helped him on his car and has always been open with him about strategies. Ken likes Spoon River Speedway because it's big, smooth, and roomy, and the thing he likes the least in the payouts. If he could change anything, Ken would like to see more people come to the races to cheer the driver on. Our thanks to Ken for taking the time to talk to us. We wish him & his team GREAT success this season.

Thunder Tuck Heat race #1 was next on the schedule. The #28 of Ron Wilson and the #28W of Eric Wisher were out front by lap #2 after starting in the 2nd and 3rd positions. A good battle for 3rd place was going on between the #88 of Dave Collins and the #8 of Dave Collins, but it only allowed the Wilson & Wisher to move further ahead of the rest of the pack. Ron Wilson held on the win, followed by Eric Wisher in 2nd, Dave Collins #88 in 3rd, and Dave Collins #8 in 4th. I sure hope they split these guys up into different heats next week; this one got confusing trying to keep track of who was who!!

Thunder Truck heat #2 was ALL Gerald Carter. The #30 of Carter may have started 3rd, but he was in the lead by the first turn of the race. By lap #2, Carter was in his own zip code!! A good race was going on for 2nd place between the #29 of David Boyer, the #77 Jeff Reedy, and the #7 of Greg Wells. They came across the line with Carter in 1st, Boyer in 2nd, Reedy in 3rd, and Wells in 4th.

There were so many modified in attendance tonight that there had to be 2 Semi-Features, with the top 2 finishers in each race advancing to the feature. Modified Semi #1 saw the #25 of Butch Weisser, who started in the 3rd position, move into the lead around the #17 of Rick Scott, Jr. by turn #4. Weisser "checked out" from there, with no real challenged for the lead. Caution came out on lap #8 when the #67 car lost a spring. Only three cars finished the semi, with Weisser in 1st, followed by Rick Scott in 2nd, and the #69 of Randy Stuber in 3rd.

Modified Semi #2 saw the #96 of Kirk Anderson jump out to a BIG lead. A good 2nd place battle was shaping up between the #4T of Tony Hibser and the #5 of Mike Donoho, until the caution came out on lap #2 when the #420 of John Eppers got turned around. Anderson got a good restart to hold onto the lead, with Donoho close behind. Anderson finished 1st and Donoho finished 2nd. The #71 of George Hall had a good run going, coming from a 6th place starting position to a 3rd place finish, and the #4T of Tony Hibser finished 4th.

Tony Hisber The driver of the #4T modified, Tony Hibser, was able to take some time between races to talk to us. Tony comes from Bartonville to race at Spoon River Speedway. The pit crew for the #4T includes Jeff, Gary, and Bobby, and the team is sponsored by A & A Heating, All Type Heating, Madison Theater, Monroe Properties, Dave's Body Shop, Modgulin Wallboard, and Hibbard Electric. Tony's biggest fans are his wife, Tammy, and his daughters, Jenelle and Jordan. When we asked Tony how his car was running, he said "good". Tony's goal for the evening was a good finish. The driver he looks up to the most is his brother, Jim Hibser. Jim's a great modified driver, and they help each other out all the time. The thing Tony likes the most about Spoon River Speedway is that the track is so fast, and the thing he likes the least is the dust. Tony wanted to wish all the other drivers "Good Luck" this season. Our thanks to Tony for taking the time to talk to us. We'd like to add our names to his "biggest fans" list, and we wish him a safe & successful racing season.

E-Mod Feature was the first Main Event. The #96 of Kirk Anderson and the #30 of Rob Bauman didn't waste any time jumping out to a BIG lead, with the #M3 of Chuck McDonald running in 3rd. Caution came out on lap #8 when the #7W of Mark Branch and the #2T of Don Taylor got together in turn #2. Anderson got a good jump on the restart, with Bauman close behind. The #M17 of Brent Munson fell back several spots early in the race, but he was coming on fast taking the 3rd spot from McDonald by lap #10. Anderson and Bauman moved through lap traffic with very little difficulty, putting even more distance between themselves and the rest of the field. Anderson dominated the race, finishing 1st, followed by Bauman in 2nd, Munson in 3rd, McDonald in 4th, and the #1 of Floyd Jordan, Jr. in 5th.

Modified Feature vent was next on the agenda. The 331 of Mark Anderson, who started on the pole, jumped out to a good lead, but something went away on the car going down the backstretch and he pulled off the track. The #72 of Brian Lynn took the lead on the restart, with the #M21 of Dale Munson right behind. A big group of cars got together in turn #2, and Lynn was also forced to leave the race due to mechanical problems, so Munson assumed the lead, followed by the #23S of Flip Shickle and the #97P of Phil Johns. The "Man on a Mission" was the #25 of Butch Weisser. Weisser came from a 16th place starting position all the way up to 4th place by the 6th lap. Something went away on the #22B of Richie Biswell, and the caution came out again when he couldn't get his car off the track. While under caution, the race leader, Dale Munson, gets sent to the pits with a broken traction bar, which moves Johns to the lead. Johns had a good restart, but couldn't hold the lead for long. Weisser does some pretty impressive driving in turns 3 & 4 to take the lead. Weisser easily pulls away from the rest of the pack and gets his first checkered flag of the season. The #26 of JD Beal had another strong finish coming in 2nd, followed by Johns in 3rd, and the #192 of Brian Allen in 4th.

Next came the Hobo Feature, and the checkered flag belonged to the #77T of Willie Heinz from start to finish. Willis started in the 2nd spot, but jumped into the lead right away. There was a lot of super door-to-door racing for 2nd place in between the #55 of Frank Henrickson, the #711 of Kelly Pritchard, the #02 of Eric Whittington, and the #8 of Eric Wisher. Pritchard, who started way back in the 8th spot, had raced his way up to 3rd by lap #5. Something went away on Whittington's car on lap #9, and he was forced to leave the race while running in 4th spot. Heinz had no real challenges, and easily drove his way to a first place finish. Pritchard had a strong 2nd place finished, followed by Wisher in 3rd, and Henrickson in 4th.

Willie Heinz The Hobo Feature winner, Willie Heinz in the #77T, was nice enough to take time out of his busy night and talk to us earlier in the evening. Willie comes from Peoria to race at Spoon River Speedway. Willie is his own pit crew, doing all the work on his car himself. His biggest fan is Jim. When we asked Willie how his car is running, he replied "hot", which explains his goal for the evening - not to overheat. I don't know what the temperature gauge was reading in his car, but Willie was "BURNIN' UP" the track during his feature!! The driver he looks up to the most is Dawn Mennel because she's a good driver. The thing he likes the most about SRS is that it's so BIG, and there's lots of room to race. When asked what he liked the least, he answered "Nothin'". Congratulation to Willie on a great feature win, and we wish you the best of luck throughout the rest of the season.

The Late Model Feature had its fair share of excitement this evening. Just like the heat, the feature was ALL SCOTT MAY! Scott took an early lead after starting in the 2nd place position, and stretched it into a ¾ straightaway lead by #3. May did a great job getting through lap traffic and just kept increasing an already HUGE lead. The #14 of Brett Nelson and the #M1 of Dale Munson were racing door to door for 2nd spot when the engine let go on the #45 of Brian Crebo, dumping fluids all over the front straightaway. Munson challenged May for the lead on the restart, but once again, May moved out to a BIG lead. On lap #11, Nelson has a flat tire and slows trying to get off the track in turn #1, but the #F13 of Dawn Mennel was coming on fast and had "nowhere to go". She hits Nelson HARD with her right front, and the #11 of Brad Denney gets caught up in the aftermath. Both Mennel and Denney had MAJOR damage to their cars, ending their night early. May once again gets a BIG lead on the restart and stays there for the win, with a strong 2nd place finish by Munson. The #10M of Chad Pratt, who started deep in the pack in the 12th position, ran a great race to finish 3rd, with the #19 of Tim Morris in 4th, and the #29J of Lindell Jewel in 5th.

The Pro Street Feature saw the #18 of Terry Pratt, who started on the pole, jump out front for an early lead. The race was plagued by cautions, at least 5 yellow flags came out before the race was over. The #C90 of John Farris got a great run and took the lead on the 2nd lap, with the #27 of Greg Arnett quickly moving into 3rd. A caution came out on lap #3 for the #69 of Tim Faulkenberry getting turned around. Farris had a good restart, with Pratt and Arnett trading paint down the straightaway fighting for 2nd. Caution came out again on lap #6, and the #81K of Mark Ross was having a strong run, finding himself all the up to 2nd place on the restart. Another yellow came out when the Gresham gets into the front stretch mine tires after some contact with the #51 of Don Cooley. On the restart, Ross was able to get around Farris for the lead coming out of turn #2, bringing Pratt along with him. The #81K of Mark Ross held onto the lead for the win, and the #C90 of John Farris worked his way back up to a 2nd place finish. The #101 of Richard Cozad finished 3rd, followed by the Pratt in 4th.

The final race of the evening was the Thunder Truck Feature. The #30 of Gerald Carter may have started in the back row, but he was up to 4th spot on the 1st lap, and into the lead by lap #2. Carter moved through the field fast, and from there he "checked WAY out". The #28W of Eric Wisher wasn't happy in the back of the pack either, making his way from an 8th place start all the way up to 2nd spot by lap #3. Caution came out on lap #3 when the transmission from the #7 pf Greg Wells disintegrates in turn #2, leaving fluid & debris all over the track. The #28 of Ron Wilson, who also started deep in the field in the 10th spot, hade made his way up to 3rd for the restart, and made a good pass on Wisher to take 2nd spot by lap #5, but has to go to the back after spinning trying to get back around Wilson for 2nd . Wilson didn't stay there long, and he was back in the battle for 2nd again by lap #9. Something went away on Wilson's truck, and he was forced to pull into the pits. Wisher couldn't get checked up in time to avoid everyone that had slowed down for Wilson, and he spun again in turn #1 and was sent to the pits. Carter, who once again had a HUGE lead over the rest of the field, easily crossed the finish line in 1st place, followed by the #8 of Dave Collins in 2nd, the #26 of Ryan Wilson had a good 3rd place run, and the #77 of Jeff Reedy finished 4th.

Congratulations to all of tonight's winners, and we wish everyone a safe and successful racing season!
