Big 410 Doubleheader in Central Illinois This Weekend!

(Bill W) September 14, 2011 – There’s a big weekend on tap for open wheel fans in Illinios this Friday and Saturday night! The Annual Herb Barlow Memorial is Friday night at the Jacksonville Speedway, and the Tom Knowles Memorial is Saturday night at the high banks of the Spoon River Speedway south of Canton on Saturday. Both events feature wall to wall open wheel action featuring sprint cars and midgets!
The Herb Barlow Memorial will feature three open wheel classes on the banked ¼-mile oval. 410 Sprint cars will pay $2,500 to win the feature, and they will be joined by the POWRi National Midget series, and the POWRi 600cc Mini-sprints! Terry McCarl, Jerrod Hull and Danny Smith have all won Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series features at Jacksonville this season.
The Tom Knowles Memorial will feature the Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series and the POWRi National Midget series. Last year, rain fell during the midget feature, so drivers are champing at the bit to get back to the high banks. Brian Brown won in Monster Energy ™ Sprint Car Series action during Illinois Sprint Week at Spoon River. Sprint car drivers will be vying for $2,000 to win.
Many drivers are expected to do double duty in the midgets and sprints over the weekend. Belleville Midget Nationals (midgets), Ultimate Challenge winner (non-wing sprints) and Chico Gold Cup (WoO) winner, Kyle Larson, is expected to be screaming with the POWRi midgets on the high banks of the Spoon. Kyle and the rest of the midgets will put on a show you won’t soon forget!
The Monster Energy™ series saw its first three-time winner last Sunday night. Point leader, Jerrod Hull, took home top honors over 31 cars, followed by Robbie Standridge and Jimmy Hurley. Hull holds a tenuous 29-point advantage over Hurley, who just clinched his second championship in a row at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Missouri and leads the Jacksonville point race. Robbie Standridge is third in Monster Energy™ points, followed by Jim Moughan Jr. and AJ Bruns.
Grandstand admission is $20 at Jacksonville on Friday. Pit gates open at 4:00, with Grandstands opening at 5:00. Hot laps take off at 6:30 with racing at 7:00. For more information, visit www.JacksonvilleSpeedway.com!
At Spoon River Speedway on Saturday, grandstands open at 5, with racing at 7. Adult tickets are $20, with Kids 6-12 getting in for $5. Kids 5 and under are FREE! For more information, visit www.SpoonRiverSpeedway.com or call 309 668-2622.
Don’t forget another big doubleheader in store for the sprint cars! Friday, September 23 will be the “Shaheen’s Blast from the Past” at Jacksonville, followed by the big Monster Energy™ Sprint Car Series event paying $4,000 to the winner at the 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on September 24!
