Gregg Satterlee scores $5,000 win at Spoon River

By Ben Shelton (Canton, IL) -- Gregg Satterlee wrapped up a three-day weekend in Illinois by piloting his Satterlee Petroleum Distributors #22 Rocket Chassis XR1/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to a $5,000 triumph on Saturday night at Spoon River Speedway.

On Friday night Gregg Satterlee made the trek to Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Illinois) to take part in the inaugural Farmer City 74. After qualifying sixteenth fastest in his group, Gregg posted a 6th-place finish in his heat race, giving him one last shot at the $20,000-to-win A-Main with a C-Main appearance. Transferring the Top 2 into the B-Main, Satterlee soared to a 10-lap consolation win, sending him to the tail of the B-Main. Needing to finish second or better to make the show, Gregg Satterlee logged a 12th-place outing in the B-Main, which brought his night to an early end.

Saturday evening brought Satterlee to Fairbury American Legion Speedway (Fairbury, Illinois) for the annual FALS Frenzy. Jumping up two positions in his heat race, Gregg landed a 3rd-place finish, which locked him into the 18th-starting position for the main event. With $10,000 on the line, Gregg Satterlee passed two cars in the 50-lap affair, posting a 16th-place finish.

Closing out the three-day weekend in the Land of Lincoln, Gregg stopped at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Illinois) on Sunday to compete for the $5,000 top prize. Starting the night with a heat race win, Satterlee earned a front row starting spot for the feature, alongside Bobby Pierce. Battling back-in-forth with Pierce for the lead, Gregg overtook the top spot late in the A-Main to pick up his second win of the season. Pierce, Billy Moyer Jr., Shannon Babb, and Billy Moyer competed the Top 5.

“It felt really good to end the weekend with a win,” Satterlee commented. “These were some really tough fields all weekend, so to get a win against them really means a lot to our team.”

The weekend draws to a close on Saturday night with a $12,000-to-win affair at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota).

Gregg is 11th in the latest series standings and is second in the rookie of the year battle. For full details on this weekend’s action, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .
